possible home visit by dwp? was created by calimero
hi, recently with her families help my elderly mother (oap) in receipt of pension credit/attendence allowance made an application for help with replacing items via the soon to be extinct community care grant. this morning she recd a confusing call from someone claiming to be dwp insisting that she undergo a home visit today regarding her ccg application.
This call has upset her so much she wants to cancel her application. to put it into her own words " i dont want the meanie (old fashioned means test??) rifling through my wardrobes n drawers. now to be clear, we have told her that this wont be the case, apart from the fact that no clothing was applied for so there would be no need by dwp snoopers as she calls them to do so.
looking at the internet i gather that the home visit prior to award is or was a pilot somewhere and is not the norm as far as im aware.
a fresh call from the unnamed dwp individual was made to her prior to my arrival stating that todays visit was cancelled and that they would call her again tomorrow.
she is now frightened to answer the phone. i called dwp sf call centre and they have stated there is nothing on their computer about a visit!!
is this a new strategy by the dwp to frighten off pensioners from applying?
To put her mind at rest what is the correct procedure for her to cancel her valid application as she is adamant that the dwp or meanies will not get access.?

I am afraid we do not advice on these grants so there is little if anything I can add to what you have already found on the internet, my best advice is get advice from your local CAB or Welfare advice office, as they will have experience in this area.
