ESA and DLA GP Letters for a Home Assessment

I am receiving ESA support group and DLA (high rate care and mobility) and have just gone into remission at the end of last year from Non-Hodgkins.

I was sent a new ESA form and DLA form recently to complete.

I am still extremely ill and practically bedridden for the vast majority of the time so my GP has written a letter to both DLA and ATOS requesting a home visit as it would just not be possible for me to be go to an assessment centre to be assessed.

Has anyone any experience of this? Do the DLA/ Atos tend to take this into account and agree to a home visit? I am terrified that they will still ask me to an assessment centre and just cut off my benefit as I will simply not be able to attend.

Many thanks for your help

Hi F,

It is generally ATOS who decide whether you can have a Home Assessment or not.

The DLA "Medical" shouldn't be a problem, as the majority of DLA Medicals are done in the claimant's home.

However, it can be more difficult to obtain a Home Assessment for ESA.

Many members have had problems securing a Home ESA Assessment, and your G.P.'s support in this matter would be a must.

ATOS generally stipulate that the G.P. faxes them with information as to why you can not attend an ATOS Assessment Centre.

There is also a question Re : this at Q6 of the : ESA 113 Questionnaire , if one is sent to your G.P., which does not happen in the majority of cases.

There is information regarding this on the ATOS Website :
