Hi So far as I understand it by reading before asking if one gets put in the Wrag then its a WFI then its onto the work programme.
I havent the haziest idea of what the work programme is where it might be held or what happens on it and thus it looms very scary.
As I understand it Private Companies get to interview you at their whim and offer you "opportunities"of employment that you have to pay attention to.
Questions:Does the location of your JCP affect the amount or quality of these offers?
Like if you live in a depressed urban area theres likely to be many more than in a isolated rural community where only farming exists?
What happens if you keep getting rejected for jobs and so after the prescribed time you are still unemployed?
Do you have to visit the Companies' premises or do they send someone to the JCP like a "Milk Round"?
How many private interviews are typical before someone scores a job?
On other more general points:You mention in your guide that WFI s have 2 main aims,to get you into either work or academic training.Do you know of any academic courses or training where you can still get ESA and where attendance isnt too strict please?
Lastly I just dont think The DWP Welfare Reforms are understanding that the whole thing is likely to be a huge flop and misguided mistake like the Archbishop recently said.
Its wishful thinking to think all these hard core long term unemployed cases are all suddenly going to be co-erced into settling down into little dead end minimum wage fluffy bunny type 9-5 jobs.
If so I think they will either A)displace the less canny already in jobs changing the mood in workplaces to wierder and edgier
or B)drop out of the welfare system all together & go into the 'black' economy.
Option B)could have further big problems for regular UK commerce.

Hi James,

Here is what we know about WFIs and the Work Program

Work Focussed Interviews

Work Programme

I'm afraid that I cannot comment on the other issues you have raised as such a discussion is outwith the remit of this forum.

Just to add to Mrs H's post.

Even when forwarded to the Work Programme, ESA claimants are not required to work or even to seek work, you can only be asked to prepare for a return to work.

All received. Many Thanks. It would be nice to have a lot more first hand accounts then of what happens on these mysterious Work programmes ,as you say its a bit of a thin soup at the moment.
Gordon You asked me to ask if I do not fully understand anything.
I am not quite sure what "preparing to return to work"means....?
How does one "prepare to return to work "when one is long term incapable, formerly incapable or semi incapable OF working????
What sort of acivity and stance is "preparing to return to work-Im not sure-I would think maybe things like preparing a CV,smartening up like buying a new shirt and tie in Primark, photocopying a list of employers????
Reducing ones drug dose?Going on a hypno therapy course?
And what happens when one has finished "prepared to return to work"?
Like you say you cant be forced to seek work or take a job.
So frankly whats the point then of' preparing of returning to work 'if you are not going to get or intend to seek any work?
I think thats enough questions from me for now.Am making progress as you will see from my questions to the endgame in all this and its really helping me make crucial decisions.
for my upcoming questionairre submission.
Many Thanks Im glad I subscribed and worth every penny!

There is no specific curriculum of activities that a claimant forwarded to the Work Programme will be required to perform, but anybody in this position should expect to be asked to attend courses on CV writing and interview skills, there may be training ranging from social activity to computing, and in the extreme they may be required to perform voluntary work.

Any activity a claimant is asked to perfrom must take into account any limitations that result from their condition(s).

The latest statistics on the success of the Work Programme would suggest that it is not meeting the expectations of those who instigated it, so I would not argue with your comment.
