Odd Dates! was created by Gareth56
I've received my decision letter regarding my IB to ESA and on the 'How ESA ha been worked out' page is gives all the figures then it says finally "The amounts on this page apply from 13April 2013 to 29 November 2013."

I've been told on 2 occasions the latest this morning by a guy at the DWP that I'm in the SG for 3 years beginning April 13th.

So what do the dates above equate to?

The November date; and one in April are administrative dates used by the DWP, they do not have any relation to any expected re-assessment date, except by co-incidence.

Thank you very much Gordon my BP has somewhat returned to normal now! :)

Do you happen to know what these administrative dates are for?

I was told that my ESA will begin on April 13th which is a Saturday, however I'm due an IB payment on April 11th which is a Thursday. It says in the letter that "We will pay your previous benefit up to the day before your entitlement to ESA starts". Does this mean that my last IB payment will still be on April 11th then when my next IB payment should have been (April 25th) that will now be ESA?

On the old IB result letters they used to give a review date but that doesn't appear to be the case with ESA and unless you ask you don't get to find out. Is there a specific reason for this?

The April date is to take account of the annual uprating of benefits.

The November date is less clear, it is either connected to the Christmas bonus or as the letters can be used as proof of the claimant being in receipt of ESA, in particular ESA(IR) which passports to free prescriptions and dental care, then it is to ensure that they have a time limited document to show this.

Hi Gareth,

We suspect that the November date might be something to do with the Christmas bonus and we have no idea as to the April date! It does cause a lot of anxiety among claimants who think that their benefit is going to end on these dates
:(

ESA is not always paid on the same day of the week as your IB was, the ESa payment depends on your NINo,

Benefit payment dates

ESA is not a fixed length award, it is open-ended and can be reviewed at any time (from 3 months after the decision), so I guess this is why there is no end date on the decision letters. However, there is a 'prognosis' entered on the computer and reassessments are pretty true to this. Expect the forms several months in advance.

I am glad that you have 3 years in the Support Group, I hope that you can relax and spend your energy looking after your own health rather than worrying about this.
