Hello

am so new to all this a 59 year old lady My story is a long one but I will give readers digest version, just need some help. I found out last July the person who
I had been living with for 7 years had defrauded me out of huge sum of money £ 1.4 million and left me with debts of £150000.00 and homeless.
.I am actually going to court tomorrow to file for bankruptcy as everything was in my name. It seemed I had been living with a sociopath. I had run my own successful business for almost 30 years which closed down 3 years ago due to recession. After employing 7 staff for almost 30 years believe me I have paid my fair share of tax to our government.
This has turned my life upside down and . It caused me to have a breakdown and I am severely depressed, and would rather be dead but I have a son and animals so could not consider taking my life although most time I feel dead. after attending the job centre last July they advised me to to go on to ESA as I was not in any fit state to look for a job, i feel no different today than I did last August I have been getting ESA and my rent paid and council tax since then and today i got a letter to attend a assessment in 2 weeks. If they disagree with this does it mean I will also have my rent stopped. At my age and having worked in Recruitment all my life I know jobs would be hard to find even if I was feeling normal.

Is it possible to become part of the support group for severe depression and panic attacks.

Going to the job centre and housing last July was not something I had foreseen. I have noone to find out what my options are and would really appreciate any help.

Warm wishes

BS

Welcome to the forum you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I assume that this is your first face to face assessment in connection with your claim.

It is possible that you will be found Fit for Work, this will result in your ESA claim being closed (see below), and your Housing Benefit being suspended, but as HB is paid on income and not entitlement to ESA, you should be able to contact your local council and have payments re-instated.

If you are found Fit for Work then you can appeal this Decision and be paid the ESA Assessment rate until a new Decision on your claim is made.

It is certainly possible to be placed in the Support Group for the conditions you mention, but is important to understand that it is not the condition that will result in a successful claim, but the effect it has on you in relation to the ESA descriptors. This is explained in more detail in our ESA Claim guides, see
