PIP assessment problems was created by gail
I have recently put a claim in for PIP and had received a date for my medical asessment, since then I have received a phone call changing the time from 9am to 8.30am. I can't make the new time as I have an autistic child that I have to get to school. ATOS have said if I can't make the new time they will just report back to DWP that I didn't attend and that no other appointments are available.
I have informed DWP of the conversation and the lack of help from ATOS but no seems to be able to help.
I have had a few panic attacks and an asthma attack brought on by the stress of this, can anyone help as to what I can do.
The assessment centre is already a 45 minute drive at that time in the morning and the school can't take my son before 8.00 and I don't feel I can take him with me.

Any help would be appreciated

You are actually the first member who has reported they have applied for PIP, so I hope you will understand if we are slow to answer as we will want to confirm information before posting.

I have not seen anything in the PIP documentation or on the web in regard to cancelling an appointment, the rule for ESA is two strikes and I would have thought a similar arrangement would exist for PIP, but from your post this appears not to be the case.

I am going to do some more checking, but in the absence of further information, my recommendation is that you attend this appointment as requested.

I will post any further information on this topic as soon as I can.

Hi,

Clearly you do not want to risk doing anything that could cause your claim to be ended.

However, given that you are caring for an autistic child you could consider contacting Atos again and explain that you have a disabled child who would be distressed at having to attend the assessment with you, if that is indeed the case. Tell Atos that if they fail to make a reasonable adjustment for you as the carer of a disabled child by giving you a later appointment, you will get advice about taking action under the Equality Act.

Tell them you will be confirming this in writing and sending a copy of the letter to your MP and also making a request for any recordings of the phone calls between you and Atos.

You might also want to look up the telephone for your MP's constituency office and ask them what they are going to do to help you and your child.

Atos are a huge company with vast resources and there is no possible reason for them not to accommodate your request for a later appointment.

Good luck,

Steve
