Hello all,

I called the number on the letter to the job centre and they were very vague and I think said its to confirm your ID, I asked why I needed to bring in Bank statements as I was on CB ESA and they said you still have too. I called the 0845 number for ESA and they said its an ad – hock interview and that only the job centre know why they sent you the letter and that they may have made a mistake and think your in the work related group and need to update their details? I also asked the job centre in question if it was a compliance interview and they said no. I recently got married and moved address and informed the DWP of this. On the 0845 number they also said that there’s no question in relation to your health as you just had a review 2 months ago and your next medical review is not until 2 years from now. I also went to my local CAB and showed them the letter and they said its just random thing and nothing to worry about, but I didn’t get to see a proper advisor though I don’t think.

My questions are

1) does anyone know what this could all be about?

2) Could it be anything to do with my medical situation? Surely not as wouldn’t I be asked to go for a medical if there was a question over my health?

3) Is it right my benefits are being threatened if I don’t go to the interview as I am in the support group?

A quick search suggests that this is a Customer Compliance Interview and the form is usually issued where there is a concern over your entitlement to ESA.

It is not related to your health.

If you are only receiving ESA(CB) then it is most likely related to any pension you are receiving, if any.

Are you sure you are not receiving an ESA(IR) top-up to your ESA(CB) as this is not unusual for claimants in the Support Group?

Your attendance is required, you may be able to re-arrange the date if inconvenient or due to your health, but there will be a reluctance to do this. A failure to attend will likely result in your payments being suspended and may lead to your claim being closed, although the latter will be an appealable Decision.

You can have someone with you at the interview and it would be worth doing so, if only for moral support.

Most of these interviews end with no further action being required, so hopefully it will be nothing to worry about.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the reply.

No I know for sure I don't get IR ESA as a top up, I had the option before but declined it as it was only about £10 extra a week and didn't think it was worth the hassle.

My partner has also just started employment so I had to cancel the HB and CTB a couple of weeks ago.

I don't get any pension?

I asked the JOb center if it was a Customer Compliance Interview and they said no, and also the 0845 number said it was a not a Customer Compliance Interview but a ad hock interview? I am unsure what its all about?

I have had alot of change of circumstances lately (moved house, got married, cancelled housing and council tax benefit - which I informed them all about) but nothing in relation to my health as my health problems are still the same.

So this interview is not related to my health then no?

None of the posts I found when searching were related to the claimants health.

If you have had a lot of changes to your circumstances then it may simply to try and sort out what has changed, the DWP are notoriously bad with paperwork.

Thanks Gordon,

No I am many years away from getting a pension and don't get anything Pension related at the moment.

So what have others who receive ESA CB and have had an interview like this one been interviewed about?

So most others have not had any problems after this interview then?

Its really stressful as I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and this is just making it worse by making me worry.

I am afraid, unless one of the members who has attended one is able to comment I cannot offer any more advice about what will happen.

Just be honest, as I am sure you will be anyway, and I am sure that it will be easily sorted.
