thank you for your reply, Alison,
I am lucky that I am not as housebound as you
my dx is anxiety, depression and bpd

I have looked again at the descriptors for mobility - and I would have expected to get - I think its d) unable to follow, undertake, journeys to unfamiliar places - since I never go anywhere I don't know, on my own

the decision maker said I needed prompting - but it is way way harder for me than that
I recently had a hospital appointment that I couldn't find anyone to go with - I was on the point of just not going at all, until one of my mh team was able to come

the problem I have about appealing is that if they took away the care award they have given me (I only got 9 points) then that would also impact on my housing benefit and then everything would become even more difficult

I am not sure I can cope with the stress of appealing

I just don't know what to do and it is already messing with my head
I find making decisions almost intolerable and this is not an insignificant one, is it!!

if you went for MR and still failed to get more than 4 then it is highly unlikely I would get anywhere

Walker

You need to have a good read of the current PIP Claim guide in regard the Going Out activity, the DWP view this as a navigational task and therefore that is limited by cognitive or sensory issues only, the guide explains your options for challenging this view.

hi walker,.
from reading alot of posts on here i think the majority of the time the MR are just rubber stamped ,there are some that have had a good outcome though ,,i felt excactly the same as your feeling hun, didnt know where to start or what to do until advice from gordon and mrs hurtyback they have been so helpfull ,there no harm in ringing dwp up and requesting a copy from the assessment report that would be the first thing to do ,,when you get that you will have a better understanding on what the assessor actualy wrote i it ,, if you feel there are things in there written that is not correct and you feel you have a way of proving them wrong by showing that you are not able to do these activities safely , reliably ..repeatedly ,,in a conciderate timescale ,then ask for a MR, .if it comes back with same result then it be for you to decide wether to go to appeal or not ,that entirely your decsioin hun ,you can take the option of a paper appeal instead of oral so if the thought of going you feel you couldnt go through it choose the paper ,reading.. it doesnt show to be as succesfull as a oral but at least uve tried .you never know unless you try like i said they make it so difficult most people just accept there last say on it , remember the appeals are independent and dont work for the dwp ,,they look at everything from scratch ,, :) :)

thank you both
I realise they say it is congnitive./sensory although once I go into panic - which would happen IF I ever went to unfamiliar places alone - then my clarity of thinking goes out of the window, causing huge distress and affecting my ability to work out where to go
I know that sounds feeble
and I feel stupid saying it
I know thousands far worse off than me don't get the help they need so why should I

fundamentally it is wrong that people can become housebound, or hugely limited in their lives because of the mental distress/difficulties caused by traveling - but that the dwp sees that we need no support with that

I know I should fight for that
but I am totally c**p at putting across the true issues without getting either too upset and verbal, or temporarily mute!!

sorry - bit of rant there!

Gordon I have downloaded the pip guide and read it - will REread it closely and the appeal guide but I cannot access the other 'submission documents' particularly the ones on mobility

also

I just wonder why on earth they ask for reports from those who see us often daily, our mh team etc - if they then just ignore what they say

do they consider these professionals to be liars?

No, but they do consider our professionals to be untrained in disability assessment!
