whereas others don't
so who knows
it is certainly my greatest expense and limits my life massively - due to anx and my other mh issues

The difficulty with issues around Public Transport and the usage of taxis is that the legislation against which claimants are assessed makes no reference to either and we have seen Decision Makers blow hot and cold over the issue, you would be better of concentrating on the underlying reasons why you cannot go out by yourself on foot and therefore need to use a taxi.

I can go out on foot, some of the time, and they know that
but my family do not live locally
I have to travel 80 miles to see my elderly mother and my son is even further

and the same issue can arise if a medical apt is far away

I'm afraid that distance traveled is not included in the criteria.

well journeys are not all walking around the corner?!

I have anxiety attacks, I panic, I get disorientated, I don't go to places I don't know unless there is someone with me,
when I get anxious I get very distressed and that can result in all sorts of issues

mobility isn't just about walking, is it?

anyway perhaps its all just a waste of time

PIP separates Mobility into two sets of issues;

The Going Out activity looks at issues that results from mental health, cognitive or sensory issues, the activity is then split into three, first your ability to plan a route this is primarily a cognitive issue. Secondly your ability to navigate a route, this is down to cognitive and sensory issues and lastly any distress that you might experience from going out.

The moving Around activity is a purely physical test of your being to stand and then move (walk).

From your post the primary issue you appear to have is with distress, have a look at the PIP Claim guide for more details of the Descriptors you need to show that you meet.

hi walker,
thought ide reply to your post ,as recieved my report from PIP and was awarded 4 point on the mobility descriptor of planning a journey, ,,ive sufferd agrophobia for many years and am virtualy housbound ,i havnt been able to use taxi or any form of public transport ,and the only time i do go out id if i have a doctor appoint or mental health appoint and my parents take me in car and also accompany in the appointment to as i cannot be on my own as suffer anxiety and depressio also,. i know how dissapointing it is to recieve low ponits on these descriptors and it is hard for people with MH issue scoring point on mobility ,, but if you feel you realy should of scored more well ide advise you to go forward and ask for a MR ,i did it and the decision wasnt changed so ive now sent off an appeal,. u need to look through your report and ask for the assesment report if you havnt yet,,and look up on the pip appeals guides on here ,it gives u excamples of a written MR ,, and also takes you through the appeals process, dont give up even though you prob feel disheartend ,,but they have made if very hard to qualify for pip now and giving up is what they think the majority of us will do,,.
