Getting an extension to completing PIP2 form

Hi.

I know there is a thread here where this subject is covered but I can't find it.

I have been "invited" to claim PIP (I currently receive DLA). I phoned the PIP claims line on August 10 and have recieved the PIP2 form which has to be returned and received by PIP by September 10. Today I have received a reminder by text and I assume a letter will be on its way too.

The problem is that the earliest I can see my GP is September 12 and I have booked an appointment for this date. I have also booked an appointment with the CAB but cannot get them to help me fill in the PIP2 until September 19.

How likely is it that PIP will allow me an extension for at least a fortnight (to September 24 although as that is a Saturday in effect the form would have to be with them by September 23)? I've never asked the CAB for help before - will they fill the form in there and then or would it take them a few days?

What should I tell the PIP unit? Will they allow an extension and if so how long for?I think the thread I read (but which I now can't find) stated that a two week extension can usually be granted without much fuss. is that still the case? I don't know if two weeks is long enough unless the CAB can fill out the form there and then.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

You should be able to get a two week extension by calling the PIP hotline, that 's the number on the letters you have had about your claim.

Further two week extensions can be granted, but you will need to show that you are having significant problems completing the form, waiting for advice may not be accepted.

The first extension can be authorised by the call centre staff, but further ones require a manager, so allow at least a week if you make a request.

Thanks for the reply Gordon. So is the initial 2 week extension normally given without any problems? I think two weeks should definitely be enough. After I've been to the CAB on the 19th I can send off the form the next day. It will also give me time in the meantime to make some notes that I can take to the CAB with me which will speed up the form filling process.

Do you have to tell PIP why you want a two week extension or do you just phone up and ask for another two weeks?

Thanks again in advance for any reply.

As Gordon says, the first 2 week extension is usually given without any problem. I don't know if you even have to give a reason, you certainly will not have to go into great detail.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give them a call in the morning just in case they say no (which hopefully won't happen) as I'll only have a few days to complete the form.

PIP certainly don't give people much time to complete the form. At least with DLA I had many weeks to work on the form (the last time I completed a DLA form I had the form for almost two months before I filled it in and sent it off which meant I was able to keep a diary and make notes for a number of weeks which gave me something to work from). It would be better it PIP gave at least 6 weeks or so in the first place rather than people having to phone up to ask for an extension.
