Hi dizzy247,

At the face to face the assessor in response to following a journey stated that he too was unsure of how to get those points for me, but because of the oscillopsia and blurring vision he suggested that I would have difficulty in reading a map whilst on my journey. Due to the increased risk of falling I would still claim that it would be unsafe to travel on public transport without someone with me. Perhaps you too due to poor balance might claim that you are unsafe as I notice you only venture out if accompanied, additionally I know I would become very anxious should I have too use public transport on my own because of the likelihood of falling, I have stated this for this question and hopefully have covered both angles. It's a fact that anxiety makes dizziness worse, which has an impact on safety and fatigue meaning you are less likely to be able to repeat the activity as reasonably required to make the return journey perhaps.

Hi Dizzy247

In this morning's post I received the pip award letter. I did get the two points for using the chair as an aid whilst getting dressed.

I was on DLA high rate mobility and low rate daily living on an indefinite award for the last 16 years. Despite getting enhanced rate for both this time it is for less than 3 years. Vestibular systems do not regenerate and this was backed up in the medical evidence, I really was expecting an ongoing award.

Hope you get the award you are hoping for, if I can help you further I will, just ask.

Congratulations on your PIP award Mark! I'm afraid we are seeing more shorter PIP awards (although we have seen a few 'ongoing'). Here's hoping this is just while the system gets sorted :(

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Well done on getting the award it does give me some hope!!. Sorry it's not for a longer period though, but at least you can forget about it for a little while and concentrate on getting through each day with this horrible illness.

Thanks again for the very useful info, pointers and confirmation that the chair was in fact classed as an aid.

I've got a while to go yet, have only just requested the claim form, but will post my result on here when I get it.

Best wishes.

Just an update on the timescale if other members are anxiously waiting like me.
Completed pip form sent to DWP on 24/10/16, text received from them on 28/10/16 to say they had received it. Letter from Capita dated 1/11/16 but received 5/11/16 to say they had received the PIP application from DWP and advising they will be in contact again soon about what to do next.
I'm in the Midlands and hoping for a home visit.
Finding the waiting very difficult just want it over and done with now.

I would be very interested in your views on the following,

I have now had my assessment, it was reasonably short, approx 30 mins, the assessor was efficient, friendly and had very obviously read my application and supporting evidence thoroughly.

The format was very much as expected, what my illness and symptoms were and then moving on to each section on the application form and asking additional questions about food prep, washing bathing etc.

We then moved on to going out and I was asked a few questions regarding this and also my ability to plan a route for a journey, ( I have no problems planning the route it's the actual walking and safety issues that cause the problems) The final question I was asked was, so you are able to plan the route but are unable to follow it? my answer was yes that's correct due to the walking problems and safety issues ( I had explained in great detail on the application form)

The assessor then stated that was all the info that was needed and I didn't need a physical examination.

It wasn't until we were on our way home that I realised I had not been asked any specific questions from the moving about section of the form. Although moving about and going out was mentioned generally throughout the assessment and I had described in great detail the problems I have when walking on the application form and had a letter from my GP which also detailed my difficulties.

I would be very interested to read your thoughts on this but do realise that no one can predict the outcome . From my previous posts and other info I've read I didn't think I stood much of a chance scoring points on the going out section and expected to have to concentrate on the moving about so I'm not sure if this is a positive or negative thing and can't help feeling concerned.
I'm really annoyed with myself for not realising at the time because at the end I was asked if I had any questions so could have asked then.

Many thanks.
