DLA to PIP - evidence letters from medics was created by cynical_optimist
Hi all,

I've had my letter to transfer from DLA to PIP (well, to apply for PIP and cross my fingers and hope!) and I don't know what to provide as the best evidence?

I have letters confirming each of my diagnoses, but none of them spell out exactly how the conditions affect me. The consultants that diagnosed my joint problems are very hard to get hold of, I don't think I'd be able to get a letter from either of them that says anything more specific than "this person has X condition, it's painful" .

What I do have, helpfully, is the medical assessment from my last DLA application where the Dr doing the medical actually spelled out I have significant lower limb impairment, which is likely to progress and highly unlikely to improve.

I also have a letter from the NHS wheelchair services detailing the wheelchair I've been issued.

Is that, combined with the letters confirming my various diagnoses enough to back up my application? Do I need to get anything from my GP that more specifically says exactly how my conditions affect me?

Best wishes

There isn't a right or wrong amount of evidence, I know of claimants who have been successful with a only a diagnosis letter from five years ago.

I would certainly speak to your GP, it's worth exploring any opportunities for more relevant evidence, but don't be surprised if they state that they will only provide support if the DWP contact them, which I am afraid is unlikely.

I don't know what your letter from NHS Wheelchair Services says but be aware that the PIP test is for you to stand and walk, you must show that yo cannot do this to score points, the letter may help but is very unlikely to score points on it's own.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the reply.

The letter from Wheelchair Services is simply confirmation that I've been issued a chair, and the type of chair that I've been issued (which in itself makes me feel better as I feel like being issued a lightweight active user NHS chair shows I have a need for one, as opposed to when I originally bought my crutches and was made to feel like I had bought them to make me look more disabled!)

The rheumatologist has already said they don't issue letters for benefit applications, but my GP is usually very helpful so might be a bit more supportive.

My fingers are crossed & I'm off to see my GP in the morning, so I live in hope.

Best wishes

this is my same situation, under three hospitals and have clinic notes describing the condition and what they have found and not how it affects me because we just don't getthaton the notes.

Hi all, just a quick update,

I sent my form & evidence back on Friday and just had the "Thanks for sending your 'how your disability affects you' form..." text. So now I wait.

I live in SE London. Does anyone know which assessment centre I'm likely to be sent to for the medical? I went to Croydon for my DLA ones, though for the last assessment I had, they came to my flat.

Best wishes

As you are in London it could be almost any of them, the following has a list of ATOS's centres
