Emotionally unstable personality disorder

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone gets pip for emotionally unstable personality disorder?
I was recently sectioned and that is when I finally received my diagnosis along with depression and agoraphobia.

I was turned down flat for dla in 2007 for agoraphobia and depression. I didn't appeal against the decision.

I was receiving esa sg for a few years but took myself off it when I started to feel better and got a job straight away, but unfortunately all my problems came back and am once again sending fit notes in whilst I wait for esa to send me an appointment.

My named nurse on the ward wrote me a letter to send in with the esa form explaining everything including my medication.

I am on metformin for recent diagnosis of diabetes.
Sertraline for depression.
Quetiapine which is an antipsychotic, my medication makes me incredibly tired, I sleep a lot during the day now as well as sometimes 12 hours at night but wake up every hour or so.

My psychiatrist at the hospital advised me to take my time with getting better and to stop pushing myself as this is what always causes me to revert back. I don't cope well with stress or pressure and have a constant fear of getting hurt/attacked.

I am also waiting for an assessment on the 24th with my cmht to see if I can get a cpn or support worker, there is also a year and a half - 2 years wait to see a psychiatrist.

I've been told by the hospital when I was sectioned that it is going to take many years to try to change the way my mind is wired.

It is all down to the sexual and physical abuse I suffered as a young child right through to being raped by an illegal immigrant at the age of 16.

I have never heard of this disorder until I was diagnosed with it.

Sorry for such a long post, I just don't know if I should bother applying for pip or not.

I did send off for the pip form on the 23rd September but have had to call back for the form 3 times because I haven't received it due to someone completely messing my benefit up through claiming jsa under my address! My forms kept going to an address in Sunderland but I live in Lincolnshire.

I'm afraid we can't answer this question, PIP (and ESA) is not awarded because a claimant has a particular condition, rather it is the limitations that result from that condition that will be assessed.

I would have a look at our PIP Claim guide to see what the criteria for a PIP award are so you can decide whether you reasonably meet them or not, if you think that you do then the guide also explains how to make a claim. See

I have a lot of suicidal thoughts which I have acted on too many times to remember, I also self harm

Do you know if pip will take that into consideration or does suicide and self harm not come into it?

I will read through about pip now, the esa form was very informative and I am praying that I get awarded esa sg again.

Unlike ESA which does look at the risk of harm to the claimant, PIP does not specifically do this, you really need to have a look at the Claim guide to see whether you can score points.

I have read through the claim guide, I think based on my mental health problems I would score 12 points for both but I know that the assessors can be very crafty after reading through this forum!

I will just have to see what happens once I get the pip form etc.

I will use the guide the same as I used it for my esa and will let you know of the outcomes of both esa and pip.

I just wish claiming didn't cause me so much stress and anxiety! I pray that I don't end up getting sectioned again due to all of this worry.
