I got the pip letter today standard rate on daily living and standard rate mobility. till april 2020.There is info on how DC made the decision. She did not award me for needing help for planing and following a journeys unaided. As i can not go on an unfamilar on my own and rarely but do go places i know sometimes with a lot of prompting,i told her at the f2f that it would not even enter my head to go on a journey i did not know on my own.I have never been on a journey i dont know alone. But she decided i can plan and follow the route of a journey unaided.Still i am pleased to get pips and what the diffrence it will make to help with my problems. And am i right in thinking my esa will increase as well?

Many congratulations on the award. Well done.

Based on your comments about your problems I think you would have struggled to get an Enhanced award for Mobility unless you also have problems walking.

hi i do have a great deal of trouble walking due to Stage 4 COPD, I get breathlessness and pain.As i have difficulty moving around the DM decided i can stand and then move unaided more then 20 metres but no more then 50.So she only gave me 8 points. In the mornings when my condition is at its worse i can not do any where near twenty metres, even when my symptoms improve after meds at best i can only manage 10/15 metres before stopping.

Sorry I read your original post as meaning you had scored for the Going Out activity.

DM's seem to have a real problem applying the reliability Regulations.

The devil with this one is in the detail. First, it's all about "can you STAND AND THEN MOVE According to regulation 4(2A), you can only be assessed as satisfying a descriptor if you can do so safely, to an acceptable standard, repeatedly, within a reasonable time frame ON THE MAJORITY OF DAYS IN THE YEAR. "Safely" means "in a manner unlikely to cause harm to you or another person" and "reasonable time frame" means no more than twice as long as the max period a non-disabled person would take. To an acceptable standard is all about the discomfort and pain you feel. According to the PIP Assessment Guide, the Health Professional is supposed to consider the impact of achieving the outcome (i.e. walking more than 20 metres) would have which, in your case, includes consideration of issues of breathlessness and this has been upheld twice in appeal cases which conclude that "matters such as pain and its severity, the frequency and nature including extent of any rests ... are all relevant to the question of to an acceptable standard. I would ask for a mandatory reconsideration on the basis that the DM has not considered "to an acceptable standard".

If i send of for a assessment report will it explain why the DC did not award me any points for for not being able to follow an unfamiler journey on my own.I have allways been taken to places i dont know and rarely go places i even know alone. As i have suffered depression since childhood as well as panic attacks even before getting COPD.And panic attacks make my COPD hard to cope with.I do not mix with people because of depression only two friends i have know for thirty years.I did not get any points for that either. It was all in my claim form.Would an assessment report explain why there were no points scored?
