Hi a good friend of mine has a just got her letter to tell her to apply for PIP for her son who was on DLA,he is severely affected with learning disability. Did I see somewhere on the guides about L/D as I cannot find it now,as I am going to help this lady get through this as she has enough going on. Thanks

There are references to learning difficulties in the PIP Claim guide but it's important to understand that it is not the conditions that are being reassessed but the effect that they have on the claimants ability to complete the PIP activities, so just because we don't mention LD in regard to a particular activity does not mean that the cannot score points for it and conversely, when we do, it does not mean that they will, it's all down to how their problems are explained.

Thank you Gordon for that info, the lad has major problems throughout the day with his life,he depends on his mum to do all the things as he has no understanding at all of making a dinner/washing/dressing etc and he would not have a clue of how to plan a journeys he has no understanding of such a task. But I will do my best for them as you say just have to find the words to join it altogether

If he is that bad then they need to be careful to avoid those assessing him getting the impression that the mother does things for him because it is easier that way, rather than because he cannot do them himself.

Unfortunately there are very few standards as to how the DWP should operate. You are still in the four week window that we would normally expect for a Decision, but if you are struggling with the delay then you can contact the DWP office dealing with your claim.
