Dla to PIP was created by windee
Hi, I have just had my pip form to complete, I was on dla before for an indefinate period. I was just wondering if you could have a look at my answer for preparing food to see if I'm giving enough detail. I have been awarded esa in the support group and have also had to finish work through ill health. I have oesteoporosis, oesteoarthritis in my knees and lower back, depression and fibromyalgia. I am under a rheumatologist, neurologist, and pain clinic as I have steroid injections in my lower spine to help ease the pain a bit.

Preparing food
Because of my severe arthritis and fibromyalgia I have great difficulty to stand for a few minutes even with the aid of my walking stick as it causes severe discomfort and leaves me in excruciating pain and feeling fatigue, also I suffer from numbness that affects my grip.it also causes pain in my back, neck and shoulders and my joints get very stiff. My knee can give way at anytime with no warning which would result in me falling and as I have osteoporosis this could be very dangerous.
I have tried to chop vegetables but have previously cut myself due to the weakness and numbness in my hands and wrist. but it causes severe pain and discomfort in my wrists and hands and shooting pain up my arm. I am unable to lift a saucepan on the cooker when it's empty let alone full due to the extreme pain and discomfort I experience in my hands and wrists. If I had to hold a saucepan full of boiling water I would simply drop the pan due to the weakness and pain I have in my wrist and hand, and also the excruciating pain I have in my lower back which causes severe discomfort and fatigue and I would end up scalding myself.
I don't use any special aids for cooking as I am unable to prepare a cooked meal due to the severity of my disability. My partner prepares all the food as even with support I am still unable to prepare the food as it causes severe pain and discomfort in my joints.i also don't have the energy and need prompting prompting and if it wasn't for my partner preparing and cooking the food I wouldn't be able to eat a decent meal.
I experience this severe pain and discomfort all day everyday, my hands, knees and back are better in warm and dry weather but worst on cold wet winter days. But even in the best weather the difficulties I have described above would be the norm.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

We can't really proof read members answers on the forum, but I can make some comments.

You say you cannot stand, the DWP will say that you could use a perching stool. Even if you could not use one you must explain why.

Could an aid help you chop the vegetables, for example their are plenty of tools that will dice vegetable.

They will say that there is no need for you to lift a pan of hot water, you can use a slotted spoon to remove the food to a plate.

If you can't use aids then you need to explain why.

You make no reference to prompting, assistance or supervision that could be provided by something else.

Remember you have to complete the activities "reliably" and on the "majority of days".

I will have another read of the pip guides and take into account what you have said and then hopefully I will be able to answer the question.

Yes this is the sort of evidence that you should include.

They may not know about your ESA award so it can help to include information about this, but if you do then you need to explain it's relevance to your problems with the PIP activities, although there are some areas of crossover between the two benefits, the criteria is still different.
