Shopuld I ask for a copy of my ESA85A ?

I'm in the middle of applyiong for PIP from DLA, however on a separate subject I'm reading threads on here about people requesting their ESA85A reports. Months ago My ESA renewal was successful (support group) without me being asked to attend interview. I understand, from reading posts here, that a ESA85A was written. Should I request a copy? What would I need a copy for, would it help me in the future?

Also, in my PIP application would it be a good idea to mention my ESA Support Group and ask them to refer to my ESA85A ?

Thanks.

Hi Kris,

Many members find it useful to have a copy of the assessor's report. It helps understand how/why you got the award you did, which can be useful when you are next reassessed. It can also help to support your PIP application. However, you will need to submit this, the assessor will not have access to it.

If it is not long since your ESA decision, you might be able to simply phone DWP and ask for a copy. If your records have been moved 'off site' (this is done after a period of time but this does not seem to be consistent), you will need to submit a Subject Access Request.

Requesting a Subject Access Request (SAR) :

SAR Form Download

From this page :

DWP Data Protection Policy

Or you can make the request in the form of a letter, as long as you make it clear that you are making a formal SAR under The Data Protection Act 1998.

Address the envelope : FAO The Data Controller, at the Benefits Office dealing with your PIP.

Write DPA 1998 SAR in front, top, left corner of envelope.

Once received, they have 40 calendar days to comply.

Sending Documents to the DWP.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Ok thanks. I don't use phones so will have to write. The ESA decision was dated June 2nd this year.

Address the envelope : FAO The Data Controller, at the Benefits Office dealing with your PIP.

I don't have a benifits office dealing with anything, it's Mail Site A Wolverhampton for the ESA and Post site B Wolverhampton for PIP. I've never had any contact with any benifits office or job centre. So should I send the SAR request to Mail Site A Wolverhampton?

40 days? sadly that means I can't submit it with my PIP 2 form which has to be returned by 15th September.

Yes, the mail handling site address is correct.

I should get the request in. You can always send the report on afterwards if needed.

Ok, thank you :)

Is it sufficient in the "any other personal information" box to write:

Should I also state that I am NOT requesting a mandatory reconsideration? Just in case such a SAR results in it?

Thanks again for your help in this.

Yes, ask for what you want. Make it clear, on the envelop and in the letter, that you want a SAR. This is dealt with a different department from MRs
