In this question, need to use a wet room.Could not wash at all in an unadapted bath or shower as would not be able to sit. Have severe issues with postural deformities which without sitting support affects upper body function. So would be able to argue not able to wash or bathe at all, or needs assistance to wash upper body, lower body. This is two descriptors or three if you include unable to bathe. ?

I think you need to take a careful look at the Descriptors for Washing and Bathing.

It's not clear from your post whether you require to sit while washing or that you can't sit while washing, but I assume the former is more likely and have answered on this basis.

I think that the DWP will argue that there are aids available for both a bath and a shower that allow a person to sitting down while they wash. If you would not be able to use these aids then you need to explain why.

They will also consider aids that would allow you to wash your extremities, you need to explain why you cannot use these.

Finally, would the assistance of another person help you to complete each of the tasks in the activity?

Gordon,

wouldn't you qualify for at least 2 points if you explain why you NEED to use aids to bathe or shower?

Also, I wonder about repeatability. My wife can shower using grab rails and a shower stool but it takes her a long time. The effort is such that she is not able to do much else for the rest of the day. That means that she doesn't shower more than twice a week.

I would argue that that is not as many times as would be reasonably expected and therefore she can't shower.

Thanks Gordon. Cannot sit at all and have a bespoke shower chair. If not supported in sitting, have no functional use of my arms at all and also have full body spasm.
So I would not be able to complete the activity at all .
In some of the other qs, there is a bit of an overlap between two or three answers, do you tick them all that apply, or just one that is the closest to your argument.
Many thanks

Forgive me but I am a little confused by your latest post.

You state

"Cannot sit at all"

but then go onto to describe a chair and that you have limited function when not sitting!

If you are assessing yourself as unable to wash or bathe, then you need to explicitly state why you do not meet any of the other Descriptors and why, so go through these one at a time with your reasons shy you cannot reliably complete them on the majority of days.

Yes, have no sitting ability at all, unless in my bespoke shower chair that is a highly customised moulded seat to enable me to sit upright. Without it, I cannot do it all all. Sorry if didn't explain well. Thanks
