Hi Kath

Yes your Granddaughter can apply for CA, remember with most benefits what you get in one hand you loose in the other. If she applies for CA she will loose £ for £, but she will get a Carer Element in with her UC worth £160.20 pcm.

Depending on your circumstances if you lived alone, then if your granddaughter did not claim CA you may be entitled to a SDP if you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit such as ESA/PC.

You can see how much benefit you might receive by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators or contact Turn2us on 0808 802 2000, 9.00 am - 5.30 pm Mondays-Fridays (except bank holidays).

Forgive me but I am entirely sure who's benefits you are asking about and what their circumstances are but I will do my best to provide some answer, you will have to ask again if I have missed anything.

So, first of all, yours and your daughter's claim are entirely separate, you are not getting the SD Premium so her claiming CA will not matter.

She needs to inform UC via her Journal that she is now caring for you for 35 or more hours a week, this should mean that the Carers Element will be added to her UC, even if she is not currently in receipt of the CA.

Whilst it is possible that your review will have a telephone assessment or a Paper one, I think it likely that we will see a lot of reviews left pending until face to face assessments can be restarted, so I would not get your hopes up about a quick resolution.

Also, if this review was initiated by the DWP and not you then I would expect any new award t apply from the date the Decision is made which may be many months time, so if there has been a change in your conditions for the worse then I would write to the DWP office managing your claim to tell them of this, it may be too late to make a difference but if yo don't they almost certainly will not consider an earlier date.
