DLA to PIP Procedure was created by Banger
Having been left alone for a few years I got the dreaded brown envelope through the door. I rang DWP to register as instructed in the letter but after half an hour on hold I was told the system was down and to ring back tomorrow.

What is the current procedure for DLA to PIP, do I still have to fill in a form or do they go directly to my Doctor's surgery? Googling shows conflicting advice about this so I am a bit confused.

I don't know how up to date my doctor is with my conditions is it worth booking in to see her as I haven't seen my doctor also in a while. Just been left to my own devices.

Also I notice the letter says to provide a contact of a proffessional health provider other than the doctor but I don't have one. My carer was my Mum who has now died and I have struggled on on my own. What is this?

Hi Banger,

I'm sorry that the axe has fallen for you!

The system is that the claimant phones DWP to initiate the call. Basic details will be taken (the PIP guide explains what you will be asked) and then a big form will be sent out within a couple of weeks.

The claimant will nominally be given 4 weeks to complete this form but this will include postage in both directions. DWP usually allow an extra 2 weeks if the claimant phones and requests it - this cannot be done until the form has arrived.

It is unusual for the claimant's medics to be contacted so we always advise that all information considered necessary should be submitted with the form.

It is possible for an award to be made based on the claim form alone, but this is unusual. More often a face2face assessment is required.

Once a PIP decision has been made, whatever it is, the DLA will continue for 4 weeks and then end so that the PIP decision can come into effect.

Of course, this is all explained in great detail in the PIP guides

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your PIP without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Many thanks for the detailed reply. I will bookmark that link and see how I get on tomorrow with the call centre and form. Looks like I have my work cut out with this.

I called the DWP and was asked certain questions about being abroad I think in the last 3 years which I haven't and also who was going to help me with the form as I have been hospitalized for mental health issues. I said probably Citizens advice to which she said a road name and I said no another road name. I was surprised she know the local CAB offices so quickly. I am of natural suspicious nature, why do you think she wanted the CAB office location?

Called the Doctors and it is £50 to look at my medical records or get a complete copy so I decided it might be better to get a complete copy then if this is needed again I have the records. They are sending a form out with an invoice so I can return both at the same time. Do you get a deadline date with the PIP2 form as they were asking if there is a deadline?

HI Banger,

Yes, there is a deadline for the return of the PIP2 form. It is nominally 4 weeks but this includes postage in both directions so that cuts into the time allowed.

DWP are usually happy to defer the deadline for 2 weeks, just phone and ask once the forms have arrived. It is sometimes possible to get a further extension but this is entirely at the discretion of a Decision Maker.
