Reclaiming mobility car was created by Margaret Benson
Can anyone please advise if I would be wise to try and reclaim enhanced mobility? I had a mobility car when on DLA but at the changeover to PIP, I was zeroed on everything, all money was gone and the car taken back. I went for mandatory reconsideration and got PIP at the standard care and standard mobility, being two points short of the twelve required for the enhanced mobility and the option for a car. I did a paper appeal but nothing changed.

The way this whole PIP business has been conducted is corrupt both in England and where I am in Northern Ireland. I feel they should not be let off the hook so to speak. I have exhausted the appeal system but am still in a worse position now than when I had DLA. I have no way of getting around. And can't use public transport. I am prepared to wait a few months then just make a fresh claim for change of circumstance and take my chances. Has anyone done this with success? Or what do you think should I let sleeping dogs lie, and not risk losing the money as well - again?

There is no point in your asking to reassessed unless you can show that you meet the criteria for a higher award, so can you reasonably show this?

Do you understand the criteria that you will need to meet?

Thank you for your reply. I am only 2 points away from enhanced mobility which I had under DLA, until I got caught in the trap of being reassessed. Not everybody was. I had a mobility car for about a year after submitting a change in circumstance which awarded me mobility at the higher rate, from having no mobility award at all. I had middle rate care, that was all.

But anyway, we are now dealing with a totally different beast. Their interpretation of mobility has extended even the Oxford Dictionary definition of the word. God, don't you just love when politicians, civil servants and whoever fires the balls at Capita huddle round a bottle of whiskey and dream up this stuff.

I have the guides and worded my PIP claim closely by them. But when I was zeroed I went to the doctor to view what they had said which was "yes we know her, we get paid to write nothing about her that may help her in anyway" LOL or words to that effect. So I was screwed by everybody behind my back. It took me five weeks to fill that buckin form in, which even Stephen Hawkin would struggle with, to find out it was probably tossed in somebodys in tray, to they found the energy to lift their arm and move it to the out tray with a big NO on it.

I believe that they are playing on the dementia card when they now talk about mobility. Doesn't matter if you have to drag yourself across the floor on your hands and knees. If you cant find your front door and open it, and if you do find it and stick your nose out, your not certain if you turn right or left once you manage to get your crippled body out through the door. If theres a big cliff right outside your door and because you couldnt plan a journey, you fall of it and kill yourself. Then you will get ehanced mobility and a mobility car to drive Jesus around in heaven.

Sorry Gordon, have a tendency to rant about this. I would prefer not to go into detail about it too much here, it involves mental issues. Apart from that physically, I have walking sticks prescribed for severe fibromyalgia pain particularly in the legs and feet. Walking is difficult, I have already had one foot operated on for Morton's Neuroma and my left will probably need operated on eventually. I have orthopaedic insoles prescribed in the meantime. My walking distance is within the lower range as specified in the guides. I have a blue badge. Holidays are out if walking is involved. I don't have a wheelchair. My pain difficulties are well documented at the Doctors, many years before I attempted to claim and was awarded DLA. All these details were put on the PIP form including any mental issues. As told to the face to face assessor. The mental issues would include difficulty going out alone. I have already fallen and required an ambulance. I have repeat prescriptions for anxiety and depression, both effect going out. They ignored everything, zeroed me. I got the money back through mandatory reconsideration but not the enhanced mobility, I had it for a year on DLA after applying for a Change of Circumstance.

When I asked to see what the Doctor had written, when my medical records were asked for by Capita, I found out a registrar had filled out two lines and sent it back. "Had a drink problem years ago". was all she wrote. Being a registrar she had never seen me ever. My husband told the doctor I drank too much about 10 years ago. That's all they picked out. That was my medical report. Thanks boys...lol. After years of being in and out of the same surgery with both mental and physical difficulties, they told capita none of it. Assisting capita all the way in their desire to lower the disability bill. This has been my Annus Horribilis, as this has dragged on for over a year, and has caused endless stress to both me and my family. Disgusting and corrupt are the only words to describe it.

Forgot to mention Gordon, I am in the contribution based support category for ESA having completed a face to face medical when being reassessed from Incapacity Benefit to ESA. Capita where given a copy of the points based medical documentation completed at the time of my ESA medical. Included with the PIP form. I had been on Incapacity Benefit for some time after leaving work on medical grounds.
