They need to wait for the letter and then give it a couple of more days before the contact the DWP, to ensure that the letter has been registered on their system.

Hi Gordon,

I have heard from my friend, the DWP have been in touch, they advise his Dr Certificate ran out in Nov 17, he only received the letter in Feb 18. He was not aware his certificate would run out. I have told him to ask his Dr to backdate the certificate and post it to the DWP with a covering note whilst awaiting his Appeal date and in the meantime ESA monies should be reinstated even if only at a lower rate.

Do you agree? Many thanks

Mary

I'm not entirely clear where your friend is in the process.

Have they requested an appeal? If they have then have they received notice that it has been accepted?

Payment of the ESA assessment rate while waiting for an appeal is not automatic, they will need to contact the DWP office dealing with their claim and request the Assessment rate is put into payment.

Providing the GP is prepared to provide a backdated Fit Note then they should send it the DWP and they should receive payment of any missed monies. Obviously they need to keep a current Note on file until their hearing.

Hi Gordon,

His appeal has been accepted. I told him to get his sick note and send it off asap. I do hope the Dr issues a backdated note as he was only advised the note had run out in Feb although they are stating it ran out in Nov. He was under the impression the sick note was ongoing. I do feel for him, he has suffered so much pain, illness, and now all this anxiety. I know a lot of the assessors have not got any real idea of the claimant illness or side effects.

Thank you Gordon
