I've just finished doing the claim form for my wife's move from DLA to PIP. There are loads of medical reports and letters going back as far as 2006 but it's not always obvious from the reports/letters exactly how things affect her. So I have done a statement but it's 11 pages of A4 and about 3500 words. I know DWP guidelines say HPs are supposed to read everything but I also they they don't always do this. If they haven't read everything then surely the assessment isn't being carried out to DWP guidelines and should be stopped. I was thinking about putting this at the top of my statement - I am aware that this is a lengthy document but it contains information relevant to the claim that is not on the claim form and, in some instances, is not known to x. I am also aware that Healthcare Professionals are supposed to read all supporting evidence, including this statement, and take it into account. Should it be deemed necessary for x to attend a face-to-face assessment I will be seeking clarification that the HP has indeed read everything. Should it become apparent at any point that this has not taken place then the assessment is NOT being conducted as per your guidelines and will be suspended until it is.
Would I be within my rights to do this?

I'm afraid I can't recommend you do any of this and in particular withdrawing from an assessment if you do not think that your wife's evidence has not been read, the most likely outcome from your doing this is that her claim will be closed for failing to participate.
The time to comment is once you have sight of the assessment report which you should be able to request a couple of days after any assessment by contacting the DWP office dealing with her claim.

Thanks for your opinion. What about if I amend it to just read 'I am aware that this is a lengthy document but it contains information relevant to the claim that is not on the claim form and, in some instances, is not known to x. I am also aware that Healthcare Professionals are supposed to read all supporting evidence, including this statement, and take it into account'. That way I'm not threatening to suspend the assessment - just letting them know where I stand on the issue?

It's up to you although I doubt very much that it will have any impact on what the assessor does or does not do on the day.

If you were the assessor and read something like that, what would your thoughts be?
Is it possible to condence the evidence, Many people send non relevant paperwork and often waffle on when not necessary. Try to make their job as easy as possible

Let's deal with your points one at a time.
1. If you were the assessor and read something like that, what would your thoughts be? My thoughts would be that here is someone who won't take any c**p and knows what I should be doing so I'd better do my job right. But then it's irrelevant as I'm not an assessor and would never bring myself down to that level and I have a sense of decency.
2. Can I condense it. Well 11 pages and 3500 words is condensed.
