Thanks for the reply Gordon. Yes you were right it was to clarify a few things that took about 20 minutes. The nurse I spoke to was very sympathetic to our situation and explained that with this information she would be able to complete the application as a paper based assessment! She even went as far as to tell me how she would be marking some of the descriptors as ‘requires prompting’ etc. I did get the feeling that she had a background in mental health as she seemed to understand some of the more complex terminology and symptoms that I was talking about. At the end she explained that she wouldn’t require a face to face and that she would be sending the form off to the DWP today and that I should hear back in 6-8 weeks from them with the final decision. This is a huge relief for both my partner and myself as a face to face would have been an excruciating ordeal and this is the best result we could have hoped for at this point in the process.

One thing she did mention was that once the DWP get the report they will then send off a form to my partners GP. I explained that my partner has little to no contact with her GP instead relying on her consultant psychiatrist. The nurse explained that they would contact her GP anyway as they would hold copies of all her medical history. I’ve never heard of this part of the process and was just wondering if you have any insight into what it entails?

Many thanks to all involved with Benefits and Work, the PIP guide is the only reason we’ve ended up with this result. The advice it contains is invaluable.
