TOPIC: Just how difficult is it to get ESA? BBC Scotland

Just how difficult is it to get ESA? BBC Scotland 8 years 1 week ago #13374

We've been asked to post the following media request. I did have a detailed conversation with Kathy Long. She seemed genuinely interested in the problems claimants are facing and had taken the time to get to understand ESA - something that's true of very few media people covering the issue.

I have agreed to be interviewed if required (I usually get edited out though - I think I rant too much), so you won't be alone if you decide to talk to Kathy.

Just how difficult is it to get ESA? BBC Scotland wants to know!

BBC Scotland are making a half hour radio documentary about the difficulties people face when trying to claim ESA - in particular with the health assessments carried out as part of the process. The programme aims to highlight problems with the new system and to investigate why people with genuine illnesses and disabilities are being declared fit to work.

If you've had a problem claiming ESA and are willing to talk about your experience, then please contact Kathy Long on 0141 422 7277 or Fiona Walker on 0141 422 7863. Or email: kathy.long@bbc.co.uk / fiona.walker@bbc.co.uk

All information will be treated in confidence and contributions to the programme may be made anonymously if preferred.

Hi Steve,

Good luck with the interview, I'm sure you'll come across in your usual informative manner.

Pity non of the English radio stations haven't taken up this topic.

Kind regards.

Pat

Oh Steve, good luck! You are the right man for the job and I think I can safely say that you have all us members behind you. Something needs to be done. An EMP assessed my son today. I would describe him as the smiling assassin. I will let you all know the outcome.

Good Luck Steve,

Dont forget to stress the inadequate ampont of training these doctors have over and above GP's. A recent letter I got from the health minister by way of my MP still tells the same old story about how well qualified these people are suppossed to be when we all know they're not and receive very little additional training. Hope you get the opportunity to talk about how much comes out of thge public purse to pay these people, who at the end of the day, are indirectly employed by the government, so who's side are they on from the start.......Ummmmmm

Soory for rant, best of luck

Hi All,

Do bear in mind that I'm of very little interest to the media compared to each of you. It's actual ESA claimants that they really want to hear from.
