The problem is that since tribunal chairmen were conferred the title of 'judge', it seems to have gone to their heads in that they seem to think that their elevated status is unimpeachable. I found through experience that district chairmen (now district judges) in particular assumed a haughty position, and felt obliged to resort to denigration when they sat on tribunals.

When all is said and done there is absolutely no excuse for disrespectful behaviour towards an appellant, as appeal tribunals are expected to be inquisitorial as opposed to adversarial, and from what has been said a complaint would appear to be fully justified.

I had same attitude at my appeal for DLA, my friend accompanied me and was shocked at the way the doctor spoke, I felt like a criminal for daring to apply for benefits. Hope everything goes well for you. As advised ask for the written reasons and take it from there-good luck x
