The number of claimants who are in receipt of employment and support allowance (ESA) or incapacity benefit (IB) is continuing to fall, though only by small amounts, according to the latest monthly figures released by the DWP.

The July statistical summary shows that there were estimated to be 2.47 million ESA/IB claims in payment in May 2016. This is 5,000 down on the preceding month and 51,000 fewer than in May 2015.

This represents a fall in the number of claims of just 2% over the last 12 months.
