We often hear from members about how their claim or appeal went. With their permission we have reproduced some of their emails here. Where the feedback is from an organisation we give the real name of the person and organisation, where it's from an individual we always change their name.

Tribunal moved me from Work related activity group to the support group
Thank you to all at B&W for the work put in to compiling all the information on your site. This has proved to be of immense value to me, as I’m sure it has been to many other people. In November, 2013, my case came before tribunal. Using advice given in your publications, along with feedback from other site users, helped me to build my case against the DWP. Though I was initially placed in the WRAG, the tribunal found in my favour and moved me to the support group.
Ben

Awarded low care and low mobility by the Tribunal
Thank you so much because if it were not for you guys, I would not have been as prepared as I was for the tribunal, for the questioning or for the guidance on answers.
I was worried at the cost of joining you, although not a lot, any extra expense when on benefits makes a dent in your money. But my goodness, fellow readers, THIS IS THE BEST MONEY YOU WILL SPEND OUT BECAUSE OF THE REWARDS, SO JOIN NOW.
The Tribunal team were so kind, so patient and understanding. But I went prepared because of the knowledge gained from your site.
I hope others join because the information on your site is invaluable and gives you the inner confidence to use on that day.
So I cannot thank you enough. The information and the amount of varied information you give is life changing to people like me.
Francine

Successful DLA renewal
I re-applied for DLA using your 4 step approach as outlined in your Members Guides.
It took ten days for Dept of Works & Pensions to review my case and write to me with the outcome namely, that my DLA was to be re-instated with the same level of awards as I had previously and this time the award is "indefinite".
I just wanted to thank you for your help. Your Guides were of great assistance and bang on the money. If anyone wants help claiming benefits I would strongly recommend your organisation.
Arthur

Transfer from IB to ESA Support Group
Just received the above transfer. Would never have gone so smoothly without your guiders and explanations. A very worthwhile membership fee, thank you.
Julian

Put in the Support Group by Tribunal and awarded PIP
it took 3 years and an appeal and another tribunal to go through before I was given my ESA and put in the support group . It took me since June this year to be awarded PIP. You have to carry on and challenge these people.  All thanks to this site and the help of my local CAB without the advice on here I would have given up so a big big thank you to you and I really do hope many people join up.
Ash

Support Group without Atos intervention
I just wanted to say thank you for the advice on the site regarding ESA applications.  I have just heard back from DWP (after 24 weeks) that my 22 year old son with Asperger syndrome has been placed in the support group for ESA (Contributions based) without ATOS intervention.  I believe it was the advice on the site that helped with this outcome.
Helen

Transfer to ESA
My IB was reviewed earlier in the year for transfer to ESA.  I signed up as a member on your website so that I could read your excellent guides.  Your advice helped me to explain in detail how MS limits my capacity for work on the very restrictive ESA50 claim form.  I was placed in the support group (to be reviewed in 3 years) without a face-to-face assessment.  My membership fee was worth every penny!  I will definitely be renewing this.
Joyce

Support group, no medical - thank you all
Hi, I just wanted to thank you all at the “Benefits & Work” website for helping me qualify for the ESA support group without a medical. Ok so I fulfil the criteria evidence wise, but even so I still had to negotiate the form and I found your website was invaluable for advice and tips about what sort of stuff to write down. Many, many thanks and keep up the good work.

Successful tribunal and then support group - a very valuable service

My daughter has been unable to work for the past 13 years due to mental health problems.  In 2006, my daughter filled in her IB50 without any help; she was turned down.  We appealed and it was in the period before the Tribunal that we discovered Benefits and Work.  Your advice was very helpful in preparing for and submitting evidence to the Tribunal which found in her favour within a few minutes.

We were told that it was due to be reassessed in 2011 but the ESA50 came in April this year.

The receipt of the form had an immediate impact on her but we set about responding in a systematic way, beginning by downloading your Guides.

The process was obviously stressful but the guidance in your guides gave us confidence that we were doing all we could to present her case in the best possible way and thankfully it enabled the Decision Maker to come to the right decision.  She was put into the Support Group without a medical.

You provide a very valuable service.  Thank you.
Charlotte

Support group on appeal - thank you so much
I joined B&W last June and TODAY I WON MY APPEAL!!!!  I went from WRAG to SUPPORT GROUP.  I travelled to the Tribunal and just before I entered I had a telephone call from the Tribunal Clerk saying I did not have to attend as the tribunal had re-read my case and agreed to place me in the support group, I couldn’t believe my ears!!  I didn’t even enter the courtroom.

Thank you so much for all of your very helpful information, I couldn’t have done it without you.
Lacey

Kept in support group - such a relief
Thanks to your site's help I've been kept in the support group for ESA for at least further 18 months following review and medical.  This is such a relief as I'm struggling so much with mental and physical health at the moment, the last thing i could cope with is more money worries.  Only DLA renewal to deal with now.  Will be using all help possible from your site for this too.
Ryan

From 6 to 24 points on appeal
I'd like to thank you for the information you provided, on ESA claims, mental health and appeals, which helped me win my tribunal, going from 6 points after the ATOS medical to 24 points after the appeal.

I'd been dreading the hearing but the staff and panel members (in Bristol) were extremely polite and considerate. I'd expected to have to present my case in the form of an oral statement, but I didn't have to do this. Virtually the whole hearing consisted of the judge and doctor asking questions, and me answering. I had the relevant information to hand thanks to reading through your documents earlier.

Anyone who may be doubtful about appealing should take heart - they too may be surprised to get a sympathetic reception and a positive result!
Liam

Placed in support group - many, many thanks
Many, many thanks for the fantastic information you provide to all claimants of these benefits, they have been invaluable to my husband who has just received the decision today that he has been placed into the support group. This has taken a great weight of our minds thank you again, now all we have to do is wait and see what happens next with his DLA!! To be honest we are not as worried as we would have been because we have the access to all your wonderful helpful literature! thanks again
Leah

Highest rate mobility - thank you so much

Thank you so much for your excellent guides.  I have just been awarded the highest rate of mobility allowance by following your clear advice. This is going to change my life for the better as I have been virtually housebound for the past 2 years because I can’t get around easily.  I really am so grateful for your help.
Willow

Support group on appeal - many thanks
I have had my appeal upheld and have now been placed in the Support Group. Many thanks to all involved with this site for providing invaluable support and guidance. Just need to overcome DLA assessment as it is due to be reviewed in January!

Thanks again!
Louie

From 0 to 15 points on appeal - thank you
Had my ESA appeal in May and today finally received the monies owed to me, mainly due to DWP losing the letter from the tribunal services.

When I had my medical I was awarded 0 points, I went for my appeal and got 15 points in fifteen minutes.

Thank you for all the information, and emails  I couldn't have faced the appeal system without this info. My advice is that despite whatever is said about you in the medical report, it is worth appealing.

At first I thought that no appeal would believe me over the Nurse, but fortunately that wasn't the case.

Thanks again
Julia

Support group on reconsideration - I cannot thank you enough
Just wanted to say thanks very much for all the help and advice that you give us on your website.  Having completed the dreaded ESA form using your website for help, I was informed that I would be in the WRAG.  This was the news I had expected but hoped I wouldn’t get as I have suffered from ME since the mid-90's

I had supported my ESA form with letters from my GP and another health professional, so I contacted the DWP and asked for a reconsideration of my case (I would have been prepared to go to a tribunal if necessary).  I sent in a letter together with copies of the letters from my GP etc.

Between February and July , they managed to "lose" my file but finally I have received the news that I have been moved to the support group without a medical or going to a tribunal.

I am beyond happy, this has been such a stressful time over the last few months as I had been told that "you had to be terminally ill" to be put into a support group.  Also because my ESA would have finished early next year, I wasn't sure what I would be able to do to support myself.  I realise that at any time they could start the whole rigmarole again but for now, I can at last sleep at night.

Your website was invaluable to me and I cannot that you enough for your support.

Keep up the brilliant work.
Rose

From IB to support group with no medical - thank you
I heard today that I have moved from IB to the ESA support group without a medical. I was particularly worried as I am on contributory benefit and could not ever have requalified if I had lost my benefit.

I could not have done it without your advice. I put in detailed information: medical reports and other evidence, which got me through the initial screening.

I am so relieved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Caitlin

Long fight to get daughter into support group - thank you everyone
I subscribed to your wonderful site knowing that as a loving Mum & full time carer, I had a long road ahead of me, fighting to get our 19 year old daughter (with both physical and mental 'invisible' illnesses) moved from ESA WRAG into the Support Group.

I studied your online expert guides religiously and made many notes from your invaluable advice.  As suggested, I took a photocopy of the ESA50 form and took my time completing it.  To be honest it took me just under 6 weeks before I was truly happy with the end result.  I then rewrote all my answers onto the original form and posted it off.

Sadly, the outcome was still WRAG!

I refused to give in and decided to challenge the DWP decision.  Once again, I turned to B & W for advice, but this time studied everything on Appeals. I sent our daughter's appeal papers off in April and we received our Appeal hearing date for August.

During these 4 months, as suggested by B & W I sent H.M. Tribunal: medical evidence, copies of hospital appointments and letters from professionals and anyone and everyone who was willing to support our daughters case.  I also typed a letter bullet pointing my exact reasons as to why I was challenging the DWP Decision Maker!

I felt confident that I had presented a strong case in writing to the Tribunal Appeal panel, but at the end of the day it was up to my daughter to put her case across face to face and answer all of the questions that they were probably going to fire at her - she was dreading this day and having anxiety attacks just at the thought of it, but was willing to put herself through it.

However, we never got this far - at 10.30 on the actual morning of the Tribunal Hearing I received a phone call saying that the Judge had already made the decision because of the evidence presented beforehand and that there  was no need for my daughter to attend the appeal and that she would be placed into the ESA Support Group!!

I cannot describe the joy and relief that I felt and of course the justice.  Now we can focus all our energy on getting our daughter through her up and coming hospital admissions and getting her as well as she can be.

Within a couple of days we received a Decision Notice from the Tribunal Social Entitlement Chamber saying that the Appeal is allowed and that the Tribunal recommends that the DWP does not reassess our daughter within  24 months.

So, for those of you just visiting this site, I cannot recommend membership enough. I'm sure you won't find the knowledge, advice and tips written in such an easy way, anywhere else!

Thank you everyone at B & W keep up the excellent work.
Anabelle

Support group on reconsideration - thank you
My Husband was migrated from Incapacity Benefit to ESA earlier this year. He was placed in WRAG without a medical. After talking it through/reading various on your website and checking out descriptors for the groups we decided to ask for a reconsideration/appeal if not overturned.

I am delighted to let you know that on Saturday morning of August 25th just gone we had a letter from The ESA to tell us they had overturned the decision at reconsideration and my Husband is now in the support group.

You will know how much of a relief this is been to us, because of the invaluable work you do. I have been a member of B & W for just over 4 years now and the amount of help your site has been for wording, updates, form filling and so on is beyond words.

I always recommend your site to others looking for help. Once again thank you.
Evelyn

Always turned down for DLA before Benefits and Work - a great big thank you
I owe you all at Benefit & Work a great big thank you.

I have made a number of DLA claims in the past and all have been rejected, but a couple of months ago I put in another new claim. I filled in the claim form over a week or two, following your guide to the letter, and sent it off but expecting nothing.

You can imagine the shock when I got a letter giving me Higher Rate Mobility and Middle Rate Care, both indefinitely! No medical, no appeal, no tribunal; 'gobsmacked' doesn't even come close. The letter actually came about 3 weeks ago but I was expecting them to retract it, (as they have done with 2 other benefits this year), so I didn't want to count my chickens. However I now have a blue badge and no letters from the DWP saying they have made another mistake - yet!!

Again, many thanks for your help. I'm in no doubt that it was information in the B&W guides that got me here
Ashton

Higher rate mobility, middle rate care -a big thank you
A big thank you for all you helps and guidelines for DLA. After last year, experiencing an awful time trying to claim DLA for my disabled husband and ending up at tribunal, etc, etc...We had a renewal pack in June and I dreaded going through it again. However, I came across your site and used your helps to get through the form, medicals, etc and thankfully my husband has been awarded higher rate mobility and middle rate care! I cannot thank you enough. So until next time, a big sigh of relief from us! Thanks again!
Emma

Support group, no medical - thank you

I have been a member of your site for some time. I recently had the dreaded letter about the changeover from IB to ESA. I sent my form in the beginning of August and I had a response today informing me I have been placed in the support group without a medical. I am over the moon as the anxiety has made my illness worse. I just wanted to write and say thank you for the work you do.
Brooke

Middle rate care, higher rate mobility - a godsend
Just thought I’d let you know that my appeal for DLA was held yesterday.  I was initially awarded nothing despite having severe stroke like symptoms following removal of a massive brain tumour plus some additional smaller health problems that just made living that bit trickier.  I have now been awarded middle rate care and high rate mobility, backdated for 62 weeks with a 3 year award in total!  The information and pointers on the website have been a godsend for swotting up at various stages of the claim!  Thanks guys!!
Amy

Support group without a medical - thank you, thank you, thank you!
thank you, thank you, thank you!

For the price of £20, I can honestly say that you saved my life!

Having followed every bit of your amazing advice, today I found out that I have been moved directly to the support group from IB - without a medical!

I can't quite believe that all the months of living in terror are actually over! I will sleep easy tonight, for the first time in over a year.
Maya

Support group after reconsideration - thank you
Just to say thank you for the guidance info regarding migration from IB to ESA.
First placed in WRAG on completion of ESA50. Asked for decision to be looked at again, and now placed in Support Group without a medical.
David

DLA renewal in just 7 days - I cannot thank you enough
I have just received the result of my DLA renewal claim - successful award for another 2 years  It took just 7 days from date of posting to me getting a very positive reply!

I stumbled across this website a few years ago, and boy, it is value for money!!!  I used the detailed information to appeal against the decisions made when my IB and DLA was stopped, and I have not looked back since.  If only other organisations were like yourselves - the world would definitely be a better place.

I cannot thank you enough.

Keep up the very excellent work - I have recommended the website to all those I know that will benefit from the information

A very happy and satisfied customer

Support group with no medical – I cannot express the relief and gratitude I feel
Hi. I recently subscribed to your website as I realised that I would need expert help with filling in the form for migration from income support to ESA.

I followed your guide to the letter when filling in the form, got supporting evidence from GP, OT and carer, and then waited for the axe to fall, as it were, whilst worrying myself sick for the past couple of months. Today the dreaded brown envelope arrived, and I opened it with shaking hands, hardly able to breath, only to have to read and reread the letter within. Support group with no medical, beyond anything I could have hoped for!

I can only say thank you very much, your work is invaluable, I cannot express the relief and gratitude I feel right now. I would have posted this on the forum, but couldn't work out how, sorry.
Clare

From IB to support group without medical – thank you so very much
Moved from IB to support group without medical within 2 months!  Thank you so very much for the guidance on your web site.
Phil

High rate mobility on appeal  - a very big thank you.
I joined your information site and I am writing to tell you how fantastic it is!

I have a back injury and poor mobility. I applied for DLA over a year ago and was awarded low rate carers but no mobility allowance. With the help and advice of your fact sheets I prepared an appeal which was heard last week.

I have just received the letter to inform me that my appeal was upheld and I have been awarded the high rate mobility care component!

A very big thank you for all of your help, I would not have succeeded without you!

I will be recommending your site to anyone I meet who needs help with their benefits.
Francis

From 0 to 18 points on appeal - thanks for all the advice
Just want to let you know that I have just returned from a first-tier tribunal for ESA with work related activity component, I originally scored 0 points and today have been awarded 18 points, thanks for all the advice

Support group and highest rates of DLA – thank you so much
I recently contacted you to let you know that I had been put into the support group for ESA, after using your members guides, and have been told today that my DLA has now been renewed at higher rate mobility and care, for an indefinite period, again after using your guides. This is a huge relief after months of worry, so thank you so much,

DLA award for son
I am writing to thank you all for all your information on your site. Thanks to all the tips on filling in the DLA form my son has now been awarded the high rate mobility and low rate care indefinite.
Thanks again

From WRAG to Support Group after medical
I just wanted to say how wonderfully helpful I found your site.

Using the advice and guidance on your site I was able to complete my form but was still called in for a medical. I asked for my medical to be recorded but when we got there, the lady who was seeing me knew nothing of my request but then said that we couldn’t have it recorded anyway because the machine was broken! She was, however, very reassuring and was very careful about making sure I was happy with the entries she was making – in fact she used my own words for most of the free text.

Although I was stressed and worried I would lose my benefit, I have now found out that she had recommended that I be moved from the WRAG to the support group for the next two years. I am now very relieved.

Next June I will be facing the DLA to PIP fiasco and I will certainly be renewing my subscription again to help me with that.  Thanks for the site and keep on keeping us informed.
Kelly

Highest rate DLA care and mobility

Received highest rate care & mobility today.
Thanks, keep up the good work.

Support group without medical – impressive result
I just wanted to say a big thank you to the 'team' at benefits and work'. I have just been migrated over from INCAP to ESA support on my paper claim alone – no medical!!

Whilst I have become an expert with DWP forms I have no doubt that all of the useful information and guides provided by your service have been a great help!!  The crazy thing is that I have unseen health problems – Fibromyalgia and CFS/ME. So this really is an impressive result!!

Thanks once again,
Colin

ESA and DLA awarded –thanks so much
This is just to let you know of another success with DWP as a direct result of your excellent and helpful guides ( following on from my ESA 'fit for work' decision being overturned in the Spring of last year).

In October I completed a DLA claim with the aid of your guides. I was initially turned down, appealed (again with help of guides). Today I received a letter saying I had been awarded low rate care component!  Thanks so much for your website- although this is not a lot of money, its more significant because of what we will keep as a result ( i.e. disabled element of Working Tax Credit, Disability Premium on Housing and Council Tax Benefit) so will make a real difference.
Edward

Support group without medical – happy and relieved
Just heard that i have been transferred from ib to esa support group without an assessment. It has only taken 5 weeks from sending the esa50 form back. I cannot tell you how happy and relieved i am. I cannot thank you enough for all the help and advice i have had off this site. There’s not another site on the net like it. The membership fee is worth every penny.

I have been on ib for 6 years and was dreading the transfer over to esa after having traumatic experiences in the past with atos but luckily i always won in the end with the guides from this site.

Keep up the good work and i am very thankful there is someone like benefits and work to help people like myself and many others.
Sylvia

Support Group without a medical - many, many thanks

Hi, I just wanted to thank you all at the “Benefits & Work” website for helping me qualify for the ESA support group without a medical. Ok so I fulfil the criteria evidence wise but even so I still had to negotiate the form and I found your website was invaluable for advice and tips about what sort of stuff to write down. Many, many thanks and keep up the good work.
Trevor

Support group
I have just been informed that I have been successful with the ESA, I have been put in the support group. I would like to thank B & W for their fantastic guides/information. Without them I know I would not have qualified for ESA let alone the support group. I am actually in receipt of my ESA Medical Report and the ATOS nurse recommended that I should not be placed in the support group. The Decision Maker must have read all the evidence and thought otherwise.

Beyond my wildest dreams

I have subscribed to Benefits and work for the last 18 months and have just been awarded higher rate mobility and higher rate care. This is beyond my wildest dreams and is all down to the information you provide on your website. It is the best money that I have ever spent. I used to spend £25 for an ex welfare rights officer every time my DLA forms needed filling in and was awarded middle rate care and lower rate mobility. Thank you so much for your website, I don't know what we would have done without it.

Alan

I couldn’t believe it
I have attempted to receive DLA for the past 3 years.  I decided to apply again this year and saw your website. I decided to become a member and try and fill my form out using your help and advice.

This time my DLA claim has been assessed and I am receiving higher rate mobility and higher rate care – my form and letter from my GP, no medical, no appeals!  I couldn’t believe it.

You have given me a new lease of life – thank you for all the information and advice without it I doubt I would never have received DLA.  I am extremely grateful.
Sylvia

Money well spent

Just had my ESA appeal today.  When I had my medical I was awarded 6 points. Went for my appeal and got 19 in fifteen minutes.  Wow, a big thank you to you.  Keep the great work up. Money well spent. Again "cheers".
Colin

I am extremely happy

I'd just like to thank you for your excellent advice on your website  in regard to the completion of the short renewal form for DLA.  Today I received confirmation that my application has been renewed and I have been awarded Higher Rate Mobility and Lowest Rate Care indefinitely, which I am extremely happy about.

I have fibromyalgia and I have found that I have needed to fight for any form of benefit due to me as I feel that I am seen as a liar because of my medical condition, which is not widely recognised.  I was ready for another fight for this DLA too, not expecting to have things appear so straight forward.  Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Shelley

Middle care and high mobility
I would like to thank every one who contributes to the site, I have been awarded middle care and high mobility DLA, with no small thanks to this site,  I do believe I would still be swapping letters and phone calls with doctors and the DLA people for some time to come if it were not for the advice I have  received  from Benefits and Work.

Money well spent. Thank you,
Pau

24 points at employment and support allowance (ESA) appeal
Just returned from my ESA tribunal where I was awarded 24 points as opposed to the 0 points I scored at my medical. I was in and out within 15 minutes.

Thank you for all the valuable help and information on this site . . . I couldn't have managed without it. For all of you who are still waiting for your appeal - it's really not as bad as you might think. Good luck.

"absolutely brilliant . . . the best guides around"
Found your site a while ago and have used your DLA guides, both mental and physical for adults and children. They are absolutely brilliant and

have really helped in my work which is with carers and disabled people; they are the best guides around I’ve found! We help disabled people and their carers claim DLA and AA and fill in the packs for them and with so many people with so many different conditions it really helps to have the different examples in the guides and that level of expertise and experience to fall back on.

"£4,200 had been paid into my post office account"
Thanks to Benefits and Work I was able to use their knowledge and expertise a month before my third tribunal hearing. I learned how to present conflicting evidence without alienating the tribunal and 48 hours later I had a letter confirming a years worth of DLA. Yesterday I received a letter from the DWP informing me that £4,200 had been paid into my post office account.

Successful ESA appeal
I am using your guidance for my own benefit while going through the process of applying for ESA and DLA. In addition, I helped someone, today, who is part of my self-help group for my condition, at her appeal and she won a benefits award for ESA. She had been awarded 0 points through the medical assessment but the tribunal found that she should be awarded points above the 15 point threshold. Using your guidance to help her made all the difference"

"brilliant and informative"
Thanks to your brilliant and informative applicant's guides, I was awarded DLA high rate mobility and low rate care components. Several years earlier I was turned down for DLA on the grounds that my disability wasn't bad enough. I gave up thinking I could qualify until I found your website and decided to re-apply. Since then I've also successfully helped my father obtain Attendance Allowance using the same formulas. So thanks once again Steve.

Higher mobility & care for ME
I just wanted to say thanks!  I Just heard today that I am getting HIGH rate for both mobility and care!! even without a medical !! I can hardly  believe it. I have been ill with ME for twelve years and have had my battles with trying to get any benefit for the mobility & care needs that I have. I am at the more severe end of ME. So this does feel like some justice at long last!!

Two years ago I was refused but won on appeal, but to know I don't have to go through all that stress again and a worsening of my illness is too great for words !!

My Carer and son followed the advice you gave from the pack, particularly about providing as much evidence as possible and sending in 'Extra information' sheets. It took them hours, but as we know how ill I am it was worth it to them to present the best possible case, so this must have made a huge difference.

Thank you so much

Keep up the good work!!
Anna

£1,000 in my bank
I just had to write to tell you that thanks to your advice on here I won my appeal for ESA and last week I had £1000 in my bank for payments they owed me, so a very big thank you.

Best money I've spent
Had a tribunial today at Harlow was awarded 15 points when Atos gave us 12 points was only in with judge for ten minutes !!!!!!!! was well prepared due to information on your web site. Best money I've spent.

From 0 to 21 points
We wanted to say a huge thank you – just received the news that we won the ESA appeal.

My husband is still recovering from a back operation.

We went from 0 points to

6 pts for walking

15 pts for standing

21 points in total = We Won!

It was all done with your invaluable help in letter writing, understanding the process and the ESA system and the Appeals procedure.

We did have an extremely nice Judge and Doctor who were just simply sensible.

Our relief and thanks is huge.

Middle care, lower mobility for CFS/ME
Just wanted to share some good news with you.  In late December I managed to get my son middle rate care and lower rate mobility for his Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME.  This was after 18 months of trying.  It really does pay to keep going.

I had to put up with the DWP making me out to be a serial fantasist.  They even dismissed  reports from an Occupational Therapist and Complex Care Panel and insisted that they still could not make my son an award.

I did, however, have help from the CAB, who were fantastic.  Add to this your amazing site and the encouragement you give to all your members and browsers and collectively this was my recipe for success. Thanks so much.
Susanna

"over £4,000"
I have just read your email for this month and the good news that one of your members received £2,000 back pay for a D.L.A. claim. I too spent over twelve months trying to claim D.L.A. for my severe ulcerative colitis. It was a difficult claim and there where many disappointments it went all the way to a personal appeal, and at that appeal the D.L.A. did not even attend. The tribunal were very good but thorough, they awarded me full mobility and full care awards, over £4000. I had the help of your pages for advise but also had an adviser which was invaluable. If I would have been unwell it would have been in good hands .The money has really helped, thank you all.
Pete

Awarded my DLA
I just wanted to say a big thank you for your wonderful, helpful website. I have now been awarded my DLA.

Looking back at the first form now I realized what little information there was on there, so no wonder it was rejected, so this time I decided to get help from the internet and it came up with your site, and it is extremely helpful and very reassuring and takes all the stress away, because when you are ill/depressed the last thing you need is a form of about 60 questions to answer.  When I had completed the form I was assured I did my very best and had given them all the details that I could.  So when the letter from DWP came the other day I was very pleased that I have been awarded my DLA, no tribunal this time.

Once again a very big thank you and I will make sure that I will tell my friends about your website.
Fay

Harrowing ESA appeal
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the invaluable guidance and advice that you provide.  I went with a family member to support them through their tribunal hearing for ESA.  It was a thoroughly harrowing experience and one that I am not keen to repeat.  I was not allowed to act as a witness during the hearing, at one point I had to ask them to stop being so aggressive in their questioning as they were making the person I was with so anxious and stressed.  At the end I was allowed 2 minutes to speak and told by the lawyer chairman to make sure it was relevant.  At different times during the hearing I was told to shut up and had a hand thrust towards my face, the chairperson became very red in the face and angry and the whole thing was intimidating beyond belief.  However we received a letter today to tell us that it had been awarded in our favour!!!  Without the advice you offer we would never have gotten so far. I can't thank you enough.
Gilly

Higher rate mobility and care
Thank you all so much for the superb advice on the site.  I have just received my award of higher rate mobility and higher rate care for 2yrs and I am ecstatic as it means I can reduce the hours I work -I  am in constant pain and not very mobile and the lifeline this has given me is indescribable. I know it wont change my condition but as the sole earner in the family and not being able to cope I now feel more optimistic about the future.

Thank you
Jo-Anne

Woman reading good news letterI have been awarded Disability Living Allowance! I am so happy!
(This one isn’t from an email, but from the ChronicallyMe blog)
They have given me Lower Rate Mobility and Middle Rate Care allowance. Plus they have awarded it for 2 years. Great news.
I am certain this is down to a strong application with lots of additional information, seven supporting letters/statements from family and friends and a great GP who I suspect wrote a spot on report for the DLA decision makers.

I wholeheartedly recommend subscribing to www.benefitsandwork.co.uk to anyone considering applying for DLA. They also provide advice on Incapacity benefit claims. Their advice guide is just brilliant - it’s easy to follow, it decodes the ridiculously complex DLA form and it tells

you step by step how to give the strongest application you can. They also left me in no doubt that I qualify and that I should apply.

Alan

"there is nothing else like them on the net"
All guides have been a great help, but the PCA has been very useful, particularly the mental health section. Without it I do not believe that I would have qualified for entitlement, probably owing to a combination of my failing to raise relevant points and the assessment doctor failing to ask appropriate questions. The guides have been invaluable: there is nothing else like them on the net.

"Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"
I wanted to say a huge thank you from me and my husband for your invaluable guide to DLA applications (adult on physical grounds).

Having been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in January 2007 your guide gave me the confidence to apply for DLA. Your guide left me in no doubt that I qualified for support.

We followed your guide very carefully and often needed it to translate what was being asked on the form! Without the guide we would made easy common mistakes. Using your expertise we were able to present a strong application.

I am delighted to report that 2 months after submitting the form I have been awarded Lower Rate Mobiity with Middle Rate Care Allowance and have already received my back dated payments!

My award is for two years and I did not require a medical visit - my application, further information and GP statement was enough to make the award.

I cannot praise you enough and feel my nominal subscription to your service was an absolute bargain!

"extremely useful"
I co-ordinate an information and advice service for disabled people and carers in Plymouth. We support approx. 5,500 people every year. I find your printable guides invaluable and would be very sorry if this resource was lost to us. I find them very enabling for many of our customers. By giving them to people who are willing or able to read through the very well laid out information you provide they have a much clearer understanding of the processes involved and are better informed when we see them at appointment. On a number of occasions your guides have been used to assist a client write their own tribunal submission. They are of course also extremely useful for new/trainee advisers."

"doctor virtually asked me word for word most of the questions on your list!"
I went for my PCA two weeks ago, (having downloaded all your info, including your list of 60 questions I might be asked), the doctor virtually asked me word for word most of the questions on your list! I received the good news that I wont have to go for another PCA for 18 months and have now been able to put in a claim for Income Support to pay my mortgage interest
(after having to sell my car and borrowing money to keep up the payments).
I have downloaded all your info about claiming DLA, and sent off the forms a few weeks ago, so I will email you the (hopefully) goods news, and if things don't go well, I shall follow your info for appeals!

"almost £2,000 had been credited!"
Hi Steve just had to write to say a HUGE thank you to you and your team for a great website.
I have been trying to claim DLA for my disability for over 4 years! All to no avail, but I found you by accident one day, paid my £16.50 and got in touch with my welfare officer once again, what a result!
I logged on to my bank account one day expecting there to be about £130 in there and found almost £2000 had been credited!
They paid me my back pay from May even before I had any written notification that I had finally been accepted, I had to wait another 3 days before I had it confirmed that finally I would be getting £88 per week.
The shock and overwhelming relief that I have is all thanks to you and my welfare officer who used your pages to help fill in my form.
Now at last I can live a better life without the constant worry of whether I have a roof over my head!
Give yourself a BIG HUG from me!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank youXXXX
Faithfully (with tears in my eyes!)

"my income has gone from a measly £88 per week (for over 4 years) to over £270 per week."
Remember me? [See Josie, above] Well more good news! thanks to your website and my welfare officers work with your info, I was awarded DLA, now I have just received ANOTHER cheque from my housing benefit, apparently they have not been paying me enough all this time, as I am now on DLA I am entitled to more H/B and have had backpay right back to Aug 2006!!! I have just received a cheque for over £1,300 and now only have to pay £33 per week rent!! It was £550 per month!

I feel like I've won the lottery.. my income has gone from a measly £88 per week (for over 4 years) to over £270 per week. just hope now that someone doesn't burst my bubble!!!!!

Thanks for all your info and help in the last few months and if anyone I know needs help with their benefit claim I know which direction I'll be pointing them in.... Yours !!
Josie

"eternally grateful!"
We heard yesterday that Paul got his DLA renewed at the same rate, high mobility and medium care. We are absolutely delighted he hasn't had to see a DLA doctor or go to a tribunal. He suffers from fragile mental health and that would have really made him much suffer badly.
So thank you very, very much.

"chuffed to bits"
Id like to share some good news with you all!I applied for DLA in Nov 06, the only help I had was from this site, and today I received my award letter. I've received MRC and LRM, to say I'm chuffed to bits is an understatement, I'm grinning like a Cheshire Cat.Id just like to say many, many thanks for such a brilliant site. Now just need to find out how much Income Support will be entitled to.

"The best money I have ever spent!"
My appeal goes back to Oct 2004. Lost paperwork took up the first year. Then I had to cancel because of ill-health. Then I had a decision set aside as I did not receive the new appeal date.Today I had my appeal without any representation. I was not looking forward to going it alone but my advice worker couldn't be with me.
To cut a long story short, the 2 men took 12 minutes to reach a decision. I was awarded another 9 points. Benefit backdated to Oct 2004 and advised to try a walking stick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that DWP doesn't appeal against it.I had no help from my GP and really thought I wouldn't win.
Thank you to Benefits & Work.
The best money I have ever spent!
Without your guides I couldn't have done it.

"Can't thank you enough"
Heard today after only a couple of weeks that my incap benefit has been renewed for 3 more years-phew can't tell you what a relief it was. They didn't even contact my dr for details or send me for a medical-what a blessing.
Can't thank you enough for the guides you publish they were great.

"I tell everyone else to use them"
I first came across you guides through the NACC guide to DLA. I now use this on all DLA applications/appeals that I am asked to help with. The Hepatitis C Project gets calls from all over the country (and from other countries) so your guides are used nationally, as well as the fact that I tell everyone else to use them. Hepatitis C is a very 'woolly' condition to describe and your guides tells you exactly what you need to include. I find it invaluable. I find the newsletter really helpful too, as a means of finding out the truth about changes to benefits and the system. Certainly all the people I have assisted with benefit problems, would not now be in receipt of benefits without your info."

"Lottery winning number"
About 18 months ago I was talking to my son's mother-in-law, who has been disabled for about 19 years) and saying how much things have gone up and how benefits seem to never match the pace, when she informed me that she was told 19 years ago that she could claim nothing. I was a bit mad as this was totally untrue and told her to get everything with regards to claim forms and apply. Guess what, although it took a little time, she has got the full Disability Allowance, Care Allowance and Mobility. What did seem unfair was the person who told her originally she could get nothing was a Social worker in a hospital at that time!! She has missed out on all those year not claiming anything but you would think I had given her a "Lottery" winning number. She no longer has to sit in the winter with 24 jumpers on but can (just) afford to heat her house and live a better life. The thing I am trying to say is that it seems a shame that this happened in the first place but more concern to how many more elderly people think they can get nothing. Good new is she follows all your information and passed your web site on to others.

"I was granted it top whack"
I would also like to say how helpful I found the information on how fill in the DLA form
the first time I was turned down and the second time after reading your book I was granted it top whack as well many thanks.

"Wow. What a result."
great news for me.
I invested in your package and completed the Incapacity Benefit form - knowing that, after having a "medical examination" last time I applied, I could expect to have to submit to one this time. And getting angry and upset and embarrassed. In the end I was saying to myself "well, perhaps I am skiving and don't deserve this money.
So I PayPalled the fee, studied the advice and filled in the form. Yesterday I had a letter advising me that I had accumulated the required 15 points or more in x or y or z and won't have to apply again until 2012!
Wow. What a result. Thank you.
Debbie

"the appeal panel were impressed"
I am an advice worker with Sure Start in Cornwall and use your DLA guide on a regular basis. I have found the guide to be absolutely invaluable and print it out for clients so that we can work through the application pack together using your guide as a reference. The "quick tests" sheets have also been really useful in helping clients to see that they may well be entitled to DLA. I have also recently used your guide to Incapacity Benefit, specifically the appeals section, as I attended an appeal recently. We won and in my opinion what swung it for us - apart from the fact that the client was obviously entitled! - was the Supporting Evidence Form, the appeal panel were impressed by this and referred to it constantly at the hearing. Please keep up the good work, it is really helpful to us as workers and to our clients in the community.

"Unbelievable"
Steve you may remember my sons case for DLA RE Clubfeet.
We were awarded lower rate, appealed for middle rate and then on the day of appeal were advised not to go ahead because of the statement the DLA assessor had applied to our case file. Remember that letter Steve we discussed it in an email couple of weeks ago when I couldn't access the forum.
Well his DLA is up for review in FEB and we filled in all forms etc got letters from Consultants both here and America, GP and health visitor etc, spent two weeks filling in forms and . . . got a letter yesterday the DLA has been extended and upped to higher rate until end of 2009.
"Unbelievable" we were expecting "hoping for" middle rate and are amazed its been upped to higher rate without even another appeal.
It is such a feeling of relief that this is finally over for a while. and I would like to say Thank you to everybody on here for their time and opinions/advice especially you Steve. You are truly an amazing Guy. So THANK YOU.To everybody else, " don't give up, keep on fighting for your Right to DLA" it can be worth it in the end.Once again THANK YOU
Shaun

"I had to read the letter a few times for it to sink in"
I received an IB50 in November and solely used your guide books to complete the form. I spent a lot of time completing the forms ensuring that I followed your guidelines. I have to say I would have found the task of filling in the form daunting to say the least if it had not been for the guide. Using some of your words and some of my own I duly completed the form and sent it off in December 2006. I have just received a letter (after 2 ½ months) from Jobcentre Plus to say I had met the threshold of incapacity under the PCA because I had scored the necessary points and my case would come up for normal review in 2012. I had to read the letter a few times for it to sink in as this was achieved without going for a medical or submitting a Med 4. I put this solely down to the advice in your guide whereby we are shown the framework on how to answer the questions properly. It is obvious that a lot of work has been put in to these guides and they are credit to all concerned. I will be better prepared now for the next round when I expect to be sent for job interviews or whatever they are calling them.
I thank you and your organisation for doing such sterling work and just being there for us. Keep up the good work as it is very much appreciated by many.
Kindest regards
Adam

"incredibly useful"
I used your guide to DLA and mental health and found it incredibly useful - it made me think of things that otherwise I wouldn't have know to put on the form. I also passed it on to both my cpn and support worker, both of who said it was the most useful guide that they'd seen.
Thanks to you my DLA was renewed without problems and without having to have the dreaded medical.
Judy

"your site was a lifesaver"
We are the Patients Benefits Service for the Inpatients at Bedfordshire & Luton Community NHS Trust – Mental Health Services. We deal with approximated 500 patients across the county, providing Benefit and Work related advice and assisting inpatients with their benefit claims. We have found your website invaluable with special reference to your downloadable guides to benefits. Some of these we distribute to our inpatients to help them with their claims. DLA & AA guides we find especially useful for patients who are applying for the first time, renewing their claims or appealing when their claims are refused. Permitted work and PCA information we have found excellent as it is in a simple language, which is easy to understand especially for our patients.Via our service your guide reaches a large number of patients in the Mental Health Services.I have relayed info to dozens of people and everyone has found it most helpful. When my own grandson was diagnosed with a condition your site was a lifesaver and enabled my daughter to get benefits she would probably never have known about.

"brilliantly well written"
We recently helped our son apply for DLA. His situation was complicated as he suffers from a mix of Asthma, Chronic Exhaustion Syndrome and Dyspraxia. We struggled with the forms for some time before I came across your guide. It was absolutely excellent and our son has been successful in being granted lower level mobility DLA and middle level Care DLA. Even though I am an ex-civil servant and experienced in form filling, I am completely sure that without your guide, the application would have failed. Thanks so much. Not only accurate and helpful but brilliantly well written. You have changed my son's life.

"your work on benefits is a shining beacon of hope"
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your website and advice on filling in the DLA forms. I fill in the form for my brother, Dave, who has had severe ME for 16 years and uses a wheelchair. Last time I used your stuff, 3 years ago, I got him up from low care to medium care and we were delighted. We have tried to get advice from everyone in the Plymouth region, they were all useless or unhelpful. Not to trash them, but the level of training they get is pitiful. Anyway what Dave wanted me to say is that your work on benefits is a shining beacon of hope in the misery that is claiming disability benefits. We think your site is fab and will be emailing the link to your site to all the disabled people we know.

"negotiate the maze that is the benefits system"
I work for a supported employability project in the East End of Glasgow, and our remit is to work with recovering drug/alcohol users, and encourage them to engage in employment, training, and/or further education. We offer a comprehensive, tailored, and holistic approach to helping this particular client group to achieve their aims and objectives. As you can imagine, every one of my clients is in receipt of Incapacity Benefit, and therefore the information that I receive from your website is invaluable in keeping my clients informed, and allowing them to negotiate the maze that is the benefits system today.

"valuable"
I cannot stress enough how valuable your website is to me, and my business. On a personal note, I am a former member of staff at the DWP, who left because of the way the service was changing, and I wish to keep myself informed, and knowledgeable of any proposed changes."

"extremely helpful"
I have used the guide for applying for DLA on physical grounds this year, 2004. I found the guide extremely helpful as I had previously applied for DLA a few years ago and was unsuccessful.

"a great service"
In answer to your question about downloading the guides, I have downloaded a few guides as my husband is disabled and your guides have been invaluable when filling out renewal of claims forms. Please carry on making them available to people like us, it's a great service that you provide and would be sorely missed (if not catastrophic!).Thank you again.

"extremely helpful"
I have found your site extremely helpful, especially the Guide to Helping parents fill out the DLA application forms for their children with physical disabilities. I frequently recommend your guide to parents who call us at the Helpline. There is another guide which is on the Cerebral Website, which is also useful, but I feel yours if more user friendly and easier to understand. I have recommended your site to colleagues who have also found it extremely useful.

"a lifeline for our organisation"
I regularly use your guides in my role as trustee and volunteer for a voluntary organisation supporting HIV positive individuals and families. They are invaluable, concise, up-to-date, easy to understand and above all free. Please, please do not abandon this service, it is a lifeline for our organisation.

"not be seeking further information until this time in 2012"
I see you are in search of good news stories to brighten the otherwise depressing vista. I think I told you a while ago that my GP had received a request for information on my claim for ICB. He was very helpful, and armed with the advice on your site I have had my benefit confirmed and am told that DWP will not be seeking further information until this time in 2012. I think it's worth making the point that I didn't have to exaggerate symptoms, just told the truth about how I am affected on a day to day basis - the point is, though, that I gave much fuller information, as you advise, than I might otherwise have been inclined to do; I had not really taken the decision maker's difficulties in assessing these things into account before.
Simon

"keep up the good work"
. . . Since then I have become a Family Support Worker with a National Voluntary Organisation and a huge part of my work involves helping parents apply for DLA for their children. I cannot begin to tell you the worth of your guides in helping me support parents in their DLA applications. They are completely invaluable. If I had had access to such a comprehensive and well written guide in 1982, it wouldn't have taken me 14 years to apply for a benefit I was entitled to. Please keep up the good work.
Diane

"thanks enormously"
I did have some good news and am happy to share it. It was during the run up to my last anticipated PCA (which i was found exempt from) - that was the first good news - I was 'free' for a further year and a half.
During the anticipation/dread I phoned the CLS for advice, who, during the conversation and my obvious problems, advised me to apply for DLA. I didn't apply for a further 5 months, as I honestly believed I had no chance. They sent me the forms anyway. Then later thought, why not? What have I got to lose? To be honest, it took me this long to face actually filling in all the forms. Anyway I did and I was awarded low rate mobility and middle rate care!! Backdated!!! I could not believe it when the letter came through. It was like a miracle. And obviously, the money helped and still does. What helped more though was being made to feel (I can't think of the word right now - and I know there is one!) that I was no longer overlooked and that my disability had a place. Hope that makes sense. Deserving too, which is something I very seldom feel. The money has helped enormously, and I have plans to go private to get to the root of at least one of my conditions.
This has all been made possible by being a member of this site. I can't stress that enough actually, without sounding like an actor in a crappy, sentimental yank film!! All the information I got to fill out the forms for the PCA and for the DLA application was from this site. So there you go.
I've also made a really good 'cyber' friend and have felt less isolated and alone from being on here.
So thanks ENORMOUSLY for this site.

"enormous difference to my life"
Last year, I applied for Disability Living Allowance (I have ME/CFS) and was turned down. I took it to appeal and went before a panel (horrendous experience) and was awarded only the lower rate care component, and no mobility component , for only one year, even though I was obviously very ill and I had a letter from my GP etc.

This year, when I reapplied, I joined Benefits and Work and followed the guide on how to fill in the form. I have just received a letter from DWP: I have been awarded the higher rate mobility component and the middle rate care component until 2010...and this was not at an appeal stage.

This will make an enormous difference to my life! Thank you so very much. Joining Benefits and Work was money well spent!

"celebrating but kicking ourselves"
I thought Mam might be eligible for Lower Rate A A because of her poor mobility and stiff upper limbs so I followed your website guidance: the application was sent off last Wednesday with 5 pages of additional supporting pages and exactly as suggested in your guidance. It is something I have been meaning to do for at least 2 years but the application process frightened me off. I was informed yesterday by DWP that Mam is eligible for Higher Rate AA and we are both celebrating but kicking ourselves that we've missed out on thousands of pounds of AA.

"appeal has been granted"
I thought you might like to know that I have just received a letter from the Tribunal Service telling me that my Appeal has been granted and I do not have to attend on Thursday! Talk about last minute!

I would like to say how helpful I found your site. I followed all your recommendations with regard to my Appeal papers. I also managed to get a "To Whom it may Concern" letter from one of my consultants, which might have helped.

Once again many thanks indeed for your help and advice. I would recommend your site to anyone who has problems dealing with the DWP.

"chair congratulated me"
Just to say I represented at a tribunal in Plymouth yesterday and as always used info from your site to prepare the submission, not only did we get the award we wanted but the Chair congratulated me on the quality of my submission saying it was one of the best they had ever had!!

"I was not confident"
I am writing to thank you for the help and assistance that your guides gave to me when applying for the disability living allowance for the fourth time.

This was to be my last time, and as such, I was not confident of actually getting any further than I had in the past.

I used the guides that I downloaded referring to them as I was filling in my form, and again reading them when I was informed of a visit by a doctor to assess my condition. This was very useful as he had me do stretching exercised and walking so that he could assess me. The placement of my walking stick and other aids where they were visible was also noted by the doctor.

I was only looking to get the lower rate of mobility and no care component of the claim, but the results came through yesterday, and they have awarded me the higher rate of mobility, and the lower rate of care.

Thank you for your assistance, and I will recommend your site to anyone who asks about getting assistance in completing the forms in the future.
Liam

"ME sufferer"
I thought I’d drop you a line thanking you for your service. My wife, an M.E. sufferer, has just been awarded the DLA she applied for and I have no doubt that the claim would not have been successful without the direction from Benefits and Work.

"absolutely splendid outcome"
Hello: This email is to thank you for the information provided through your web site. This was my 4th time of claiming DLA and by far the easiest. About 8 years ago my first and second application were refused. My second time, about 4 years ago, of applying was granted but at a minimal level after examination by one of their doctors (I strongly disagreed with the assessment but did not feel equipped to appeal the decision).
My most recent application was made using the advice and the step by step method in your members' section. I was a bit wary of paying over the membership fee in case your web site was a scam but did join after checking out your bona fides on the internet. My application has just been approved within just 2 weeks or sending in the forms - and the award was at higher levels than before. Absolutely splendid outcome. I would recommend your service to anyone in a similar position to mine.
Thank you very much,
Mark

"a huge difference to my parents lives"
Just wanted to email and say a huge thank you for your advice on this site.
I applied for DLA for my father in June of this year. I had hoped that he would be awarded the lower rate mobility allowance and perhaps the lower rate care allowance.
I heard last week that he will be receiving the highest mobility rate and care rate. This is going to make a huge difference to my parents lives. They have always been decent, hard working (well Dad can't work now), honest people who have claimed on two previous occasions but gotten nowhere.
I took my time, read everything on site and made lots of notes - culminating in an extra 8 typed pages of information being provided along with the new "tick-box" form. I strongly believe that it was this typed report that clinched the allowances for my Dad.
I think your site is magnificent and I really can't thank you enough for your insight inot the system - when I was completing the forms I didn't know what "they" were asking most of the time, but your explanations made it clear and more easily understood.
Once again a huge thank you for your help.
Kindest regards
Helena

"granted attendance allowance"
I am very pleased to tell you that, having subscribed to your website and taking careful note of your advice, my wife duly completed the forms and sent them off. My wife has today been informed that she has been granted Attendance Allowance (at the higher rate of £64.50 per week).
Many thanks for your help and advice.
Regards
Craig

"making a difference to people's lives"
I would just like to say a very big thank you to your site for the incredibly helpful information on filling out DLA claim forms.
This is this third time that I have completed these forms for my son, the other two times he was turned down and I wasn't brave enough to go to final appeal stage - although I did ask for the decision to be looked at again but failed.
After finding your site I decided to try once more feeling that I was better informed this time and more prepared to go down the appeal route. I used your guide to fill out the application form. After quite a wait I have just received a letter to confirm that he is entitled to Higher rate care and Lower rate Mobility (and no appeal necessary).
Thanks very much again and keep up the good work, you really are making a difference to peoples lives.
Regards,
Tasha

"wonderful informative site"
Just like to say a big thank you for all the help we have gleaned from your website. So pleased to say we are a success story. We applied to have my husbands DLA looked at further, since 1998 he has been getting middle rate for care and lower rate for Mobility. We sent the forms back in March this year and although we have waited a long time to here from them, we finally got a letter telling us that he has been awarded high rate for Care and High Rate Mobillity. This will make an enormous difference to our lives. Thanks once again for a wonderful informative site the small charge was well worth it. Good Luck to all claimants using this site, it really is invaluable.
Linda

"appeal was successful"
just to say thanks for your helpful site.
I only discovered it shortly before my DLA appeal - but it still helped. Especially with my nerves, as i had much more idea what to expect.
so my dla appeal was successful. Now all i have to do is hunt down your IB literature, as heh, guess what i have an IB medical in two weeks ....
Thanks again.
Bryana

"fantastic service"
Thank you for the recent updates and please please keep on with the fantastic service you provide. I was turned down for DLA Mobility and Care allowance last year. However after joining your service I appealed under several issues and was awarded higher rate Mobility and lower rate care.
Regards,
Jane

"Good news!"

Hello
Good News!
I have just had my renewal for IB agreed.
Thank you for showing me how to complete the form correctly.
I also went to see my GP to explain my limitations on a typical day and on a
very bad one with a severe flare up.
Thank you so much for your help and hard work.
Balbir

"recommend it to anyone"
I found your site and its information invaluable in successfully applying for incapacity benefit for my wife last year. It is by far the best website of its kind on the web and I praise it and recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
Thanking you again,
Megan

"successfully appealed"
I have successfully appealed to get my incap benefit reinstated and am delighted to pass on the good news to you, having spent much time poring over the guidance on the benefits and work website. I'm quite sure I was then able to provide appropriate information.
Best wishes,
Pam

"never have done this without your website"
I have just been awarded higher rate mobility, and middle rate care. I would never have done this without your website. The system is appalling and has drained myself and my wonderful fiancée who god bless him has always believed in me. I urge anyone to fight on, but I am sure there are some people who just can't, what happens to these vulnerable people I wonder?
Thank you ever so much, you have been invaluable in my fight.
Hywel

"Bingo!"
I became a member of your site some months ago , the information has proved to be worth more than its weight in gold !I mean this as a fact i have tried to get my wife on D.L.A.for years , always with the same outcome Zero. I filled in the forms as you directed and Bingo!
Joining your site was the best money i think i have spent in a long time and would highly reccomend your service without reservation. Once again thank you for all the help ,
Regards,
Trevor

"absolutely delighted"
We heard yesterday that David got his DLA renewed at the same rate, high
mobility and medium care. We are absolutely delighted he hasn't had to see
a DLA doctor or go to a tribunal. He suffers from fragile mental health and
that would have really made him much suffer badly.
So thank you very, very much. I just followed your instructions to the
letter and it worked. We are eternally grateful!
Justin

"sterling work"
I received an IB50 in November and solely used your guide books to complete the form. I spent a lot of time completing the forms ensuring that I followed your guidelines. I have to say I would have found the task of filling in the form daunting to say the least if it had not been for the guide. Using some of your words and some of my own I duly completed the form and sent it off..
Sandy

"brilliant and informative"
Hi Steve
Thanks to your brilliant and informative applicant's guides, I was awarded DLA high rate mobility and low rate care components. Several years earlier I was turned down for DLA on the grounds that my disability wasn't bad enough. I gave up thinking I could qualify until I found your website and decided to re-apply. Since then I've also successfully helped my father obtain Attendance Allowance using the same formulas. So thanks once again Steve.
Louise

"the lowest amount of DLA"
I filled in the application form just as you explained I should do and I have been awarded the lowest amount of DLA which is ok by me and it helps towards my living costs so a real big thank you I am writing this on my own behalf and you can print this on the site if you want as I am as genuine as they come
kind regards
John

"Its the best money that I have ever spent!"
Just a quick e mail to thank you for your brilliant information which is worth every penny. I have used it and have successfully got DLA today! Its the best money that I have ever spent!

"ME sufferer"
I thought I'd drop you a line thanking you for your service. My wife, an M.E. sufferer, has just been awarded the DLA she applied for and I have no doubt that the claim would not have been successful without the direction from Benefits and Work.
Mal

"middle rate care without appeal or medical"
This site is GREAT. I followed all your advice and my daughter got middle rate care without appeal or medical - I tell everyone about it. Keep up the great work.
Liz

"successful purely on the basis of my submission"
I had previously been turned down for a DLA/Mobility component claim but, with the information drawn from your materials about how best to present my case, I was advised this morning that I had been successful purely on the basis of my submission and the support of my GP. No medical boards or home visits.

I doubt whether I would have been so successful, so quickly without the information your organisation provides.
Jonathan

"I would have made a complete mess of the application"
I down loaded the DLA application form and looked at it in amazement, then I looked for help and found you. Having joined and studied your guide, filling in the form started to make sense. I am positive that without your help I would have made a complete mess of the application, you have to know what the question is trying to ask and what answer you should be writing in. It would appear that putting the first thing that comes into your head will result in failure but with your help giving the same answer but worded as they expect to see it results in success.

The result was my application was accepted and I was awarded the highest rate of mobility D.L.A. And the middle rate of personal care. Many thanks I could not have done it without you.
Charlie

"I did not even have to attend a medical"

Your site is fantastic Steve, I am quite certain that without the information on it, I would not have been successful in my claim for IB (which is coming up for review shortly). I simply would not have thought it necessary to provide the level and detail of information that it turns out is required when claiming, but the information you supply was and is invaluable. I did not even have to attend a medical to be awarded IB and I am sure again that that is down to the level of information that I supplied on my questionnaire - which I would not have done had I not followed the advice on the website.
Many thanks!!
Pete

"awarded 22 points rather than the zero which was originally awarded"
I have just returned from my incapacity benefits tribunal and I am glad to say that on one part of my illness alone I have been awarded 22 points rather than the zero which was originally awarded for my total medical condition at the DWP medical. They also have to backdate my monies to 11th January.
Your site has been an invaluable tool in getting to this point and the blank forms for "Health Professionals Evidence" were filled in by my GP and held great weight.. Again many thanks for a wonderful website and as I go on with my life I will be volunteering for [details removed] and will be able to tell others in my position where to look for advice.
Gina

"your help and advice has helped to change my life"

I would like to say Thank you so much, your help and advice has helped to change my life. I could not believe it when the letter came from the DLA in January to say that I had been awarded full mobility rate and the lowest rate of care for a 3 year period. Never before have I been able to win a DLA award without going through a tribunal. Last time I was awarded the lowest rate of care and low rate of mobility for 4 years, because I was lucky enough to have a Welfare Rights Officer to go with me. But before that I was turned down for 2 years, even after a tribunal.

I fully expected to have no award at all this time, as I had been dropped by the consultants who were treating me, as soon as I was diagnosed as having Lyme disease. This is the disease that must not speak its name, and I think ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia are the symptoms or syndromes caused by the infection. But by following the procedures in your downloaded documents, and taking the time
to get documents together and also writing a diary, I was successful.

Because I can survive now on the DLA award, I should be able to afford to buy the antibiotics I need to stop the Lyme disease getting worse.
Lorraine

"I was told within a week I have the allowance indefinitely."

A big thank you to Benefits and Work. The information on the site gave me confidence when I had my PCA. Now they tell me the decision won't be reviewed again for 5 years.

I also applied for DLA and filled in the form as you advised and sent along a copy of the report written at the PCA. I was told within a week I have the allowance indefinitely. The decision was made on the strength of the PCA report and what I had written. No medical or interview was needed. Thank you so much.
Rose

"she received the highest rate of AA"
I must thank you for the excellent guide lines about applying for AA. I followed the advice exactly when applying on behalf of my elderly, disabled cousin. As a result, she received the highest rate of AA and already her life has been improved greatly. Her better financial situation has meant that she is able to maintain her independence by employing someone to do her cleaning etc. Being free of money worries has improved her self esteem and has made her far more optimistic about the future. The local council have given her a full grant to have a walk-in shower and stairlift fitted within the next few months. I feel that subscribing to your very informative website has enabled me to help her access a better quality of life. Many thanks indeed.
Bev

"ME/CFS . . . higher rate mobility and middle rate care for 3 YEARS"
I have ME/CFS. I was turned down for DLA. Then I discovered Benefits and Work around the same time I decided to appeal. It was no surprise that I was turned down. I didn't ask my doctor for a medical report! I gave one-line answers! I gave no examples! And i did no diary! It was such an appalling application (although I was of course very ill and could not even make it to the CAB) that it is not altogether surprising.

I went to Tribunal much better armed and was awarded HRM and MRC for 18 months. Very sympathetic tribunal apart from the doctor! Two weeks later I had a very hostile IB medical - which I am sure I would have failed if I had not been aware of the 'trick' questions. You can add another new one: "Do you read TV schedules?" I passed that too.

Phew, then its renewal time. I did the form properly. It took weeks. I became obsessed. I was nervous. I used the guides all over again. I would start amending it in the middle of the night if I woke
up. I asked my GP to update her sympathetic report. I felt like I was begging and desperate, but I had to.

Within 3 weeks I received (much to my surprise) a letter from them through the post. Part of me dreaded opening the letter. So soon, it must be another enquiry or perhaps DLA medical appointment.

BUT NO! It was an award of higher rate mobility and middle rate care for 3 YEARS!!! I was euphoric.

Thank you very much. It has been such a great help and I would not have managed it any other way.
Beth

“one of my best investments ever”
I would like to thank Benefits and Work for their website and benefit guides. After subscribing to your site, downloading the DLA claim guide and after studiously referring to the guide I submitted my first DLA claim with much trepidation.

Last week I received great news. I had been awarded the higher rate mobility allowance and the minimum care component for the next 3 years.

My subscription fee rates as one of my best investments ever.

Many thanks to you and your site.
Derek

“This was all thanks to your website”
In May had I my IB stopped after a medical by the DWP/Medical Services. I subsequently made an appeal. Today I had my appeal hearing. The hearing was stopped after 15 minutes and my IB was reinstated.

This was all thanks to your website, guides and the advice they contained, it allowed us to prepare a cast iron case. Based on the evidence we presented the Tribunal said the case should never have got that far.

Once again thank you, we could not have done it without you, we will forever be grateful to you.

“never again have to fill in those blasted forms”
I completed my DLA Claim Form with the help of your Guide, which I used question by question, and found extremely helpful.

Five minutes ago I received a letter dated 22nd August telling me that I had again received an award of the Highest Rate for mobility and care but guess what - this time it's for an Indefinite Period which hopefully means that at the age of 64 I will never again have to fill in those blasted forms, nor have a doctor here to examine me, which is dreadfully demeaning.

I am so, so grateful to you. I even did as you said and printed out a form telling my gp which disabilities and treatments I have, took it to him and asked him to enter it on my DLA form as I had written it. As expected, he wrote his own version of this, and left out half of what I'd asked him to write, including the fact that my spine is fused which renders me immobile from the waist down. But at least what he did write seems to have worked, and is much better than the rubbish he usually enters on my form! So that information was invaluable to me.

I would just like to say thank you once again for your help, it was certainly the best £18.95 I have ever spent, and worth every penny!
Sheila

“Can't thank you enough”
I just want to say a big thanks to you and your team, and the site.

I used your info, along with a local ME support group advisor, and I've been awarded HR mobility and LR care indefinitely.

Up until now I'd been getting LR care, and that was after a struggle, and appeal and tribunal.

Can't thank you enough, there were thing in there that hadn't even occurred to me to put originally, things I guess that to me had become every day life.
Marge

“your amazing guide”
Last time I applied I only won the benefit on appeal and it was an incredibly stressful and upsetting process. With the use of your amazing guide, this time I was awarded DLA without appeal or medical and I even was awarded a higher rate!

I therefore wanted to let you know of my success and to thank you for your very informative and empowering website.
David

“Your advice on filling out questionnaires and attending medicals has been brilliant.”
I had to let you know how your website has helped me over the last few years. Your advice on filling out questionnaires and attending medicals has been brilliant. This year along came the questionnaire as usual. I have a variety of complaints including mental health so I printed out your sheets dealing with the mental health points and filled out the form very carefully.

On the day before I went on holiday along came the horrible brown envelope but I found that they are not reviewing my case until Aug 2013, by which date I will be 60 anyway and one of my pensions will have started. Usually they pester me every year!

Thanks to you my holiday was extra enjoyable.
Alice

“Couldn't have done it without you”
My son, Paul, has just been told that he has been awarded the DLA for the next 5 years. This is the first time in the last 14 years that he has had an award without having to appeal, and often appeal again as well as go through medicals etc etc. And never for more than 2 years at a time. Does this mean that the Agency accepts M.E. as a neurological disease?

Praise the Lord, it gives Paul time to move on. Thank you for your help. Couldn't have done it without you.
Hilary

A very tense, emotional and scary hour
I just wanted you to know that I am now in receipt of DLA, mainly because of this site. I applied for DLA in June last year and have consulted these guides with every form, note, phone call, description and piece of evidence given to the DWP. I have also had assistance in these last few weeks (and at the Tribunal) from a wonderful man from Social Services, who only praised the way I (your site!) handled everything. And to think I nearly gave up when that huge pile of papers landed on my doormat months ago. But I heeded your advice and persisted. On the morning of my Tribunal, all that was going through my head was the 70% of claimants who get awarded DLA. After a very tense, emotional and scary hour, we left the room and I cried some more. Then our Social Services man came in wafting a piece of paper stating that the 3 had unanimously decided on middle rate care and low rate mobility, all dated back to June 2007.

I literally went to bed and slept for 4 hours - I had not slept well all week with the worry! I thank you and everyone else who helps with this website, very, very much as this will help change and improve my life, and the lives of my fiancé and 3 children.

Awarded the full amounts within 3 weeks
Just to let you know that I used your advice sheets to help an elderly couple fill in the AA forms and both of them, quite rightly, were awarded the full amounts within 3 weeks of posting the applications. They have now joined as contributors to your site.

Again, many thanks for your hard work.
Julia

Higher Rate for Care and the Higher Rate for Mobility
I just thought I would let you know that I finally got round to reapplying again for an increase in my DLA in November.

Previously I had been awarded the lower rate for care and every time I renewed it or contacted them to say my situation had worsened it still came back with the same award of the lower rate for care and no mobility.

I resubmitted my application in November using your guidance notes every step of the way, and it has just come back with an award at the Higher Rate for Care and the Higher Rate for Mobility, which I know I would not have been able to achieve without your fantastic information being available to me. It took me a tremendous amount of time to complete the application forms and I was just recovering from flu which didn't help. I was fully prepared to have to appeal with the possible follow up of tribunals, but didn't have to. My application must have been sufficient.

I am therefore looking forward to getting a new car which will have been adapted so that I can take my mobility scooter with me, as at the moment, my husband has had to take the back seats out of our current car and use 2 ramps to get the scooter in.

With very best wishes, and thanks again,
Hannah

Higher rate DLA for care and mobility
I am just writing to thank you for all the help your site has given me.

Every time I renew my DLA there is always a problem and I have even been to two appeal hearings. Both times I received the higher rate DLA for mobility and care so I realised that it must be the way I complete the forms that causes the problems.
This time when my renewal forms arrived I became a member of your site and used your advice when I completed my forms.

I'm pleased to say that a letter arrived today saying that I would receive higher rate DLA for care and mobility for the next 5 years.

Many thanks.
Maria

Awarded for an indefinite period
Just a simple Thank you.

DLA had reduced my severely autistic son’s allowance as he was “ no longer mentally impaired and did not exhibit challenging behaviour!” (I did ask them for the magic cure for autism).

I asked them to look at it again and they wouldn’t budge so I them asked for a tribunal, after drafting a letter using heaps of your advice.

Today I received a letter to say that they had looked at it yet again and lo and behold, my son is “severely mentally impaired and displays challenging behaviour!!” and to make it even better it has been awarded for an indefinite period rather than the 3 year renewal that it has been since he was four.

Thank you so much.
Jane

“more than I dared hope for”
Have just received notification that thanks to the help provided by your site my daughter aged 8 with Asperger's syndrome has been awarded middle rate for care and lower mobility rate.  This is more than I dared hope for having been turned down before.  The subscription fee for your site was the best money I have ever spent.

Thank you so much!!!!
Ella

“I have CFS/ME”

Without the guidance from your site I doubt I would have received the higher rate of DLA for my mobility.

I have CFS/ME and many of my acquaintances who have the same condition have failed on their DLA claims but have not subscribed to your company and therefore not had the same help that I have received.

Thank you, the subscription money I have paid to access your site has been money well spent.  I am unwell and have been for 20 years and the extra DLA makes a huge difference.
Ava

“I am in shock but so relieved”

Thank you so much for the guides, which I used to complete my DLA claim form.  I have just been awarded full mobility and middle care.  I had tried before years ago and was turned down.  I am in shock but so relieved not to have to scrimp for every penny now for the next 18 months.
Bev

“your wonderful website”
Having attended a medical in January, they found me capable for work so I set the ball rolling to appeal.  With the help of a local welfare rights representative and your wonderful website I attended my tribunal at the end of May and was successful.  Your website was invaluable and thank you for being part of my success story.
Ade

“I haven't stopped grinning since”
I just wanted to add my comments to all the other positive feedback you have received.

Although I am not an experienced Representative I have successfully helped my brother achieve an increased award from the lower to the middle rate care component of DLA.  My brother suffers from chronic Schizophrenia so I was concerned about the effect the ordeal of a Tribunal hearing would have on him. I only came across your website after we had been notified of the date for the Hearing but I still found your guides were invaluable in helping me to prepare. I had already decided to make a written submission in advance which I sent to the Tribunal Service two weeks before the Hearing.

Having considered my written submission much to our surprise and great relief the Panel had already decided and found in our favour before we had even entered the room. The Chair told us straight away that on the basis of the submission document they agreed with our view of my brother's level of entitlement and so there was no need to put him through the ordeal of asking him lots of questions. He also complimented me on the clarity of my submission. We were literally in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. The subscription monies was certainly the best £18 I have ever spent.

The Hearing was yesterday and I haven't stopped grinning since. Thank you.
Emily

“worth nearly 70 pounds a week”
We joined your service when my husband’s incapacity benefit came up for review. Your info was invaluable to us and he the passed medical with medical services and was given 5 years, so that takes him to within 6 months of his 65th birthday.

A few years ago he was rejected for dla so following your method and using medical services report he applied again and today, only 3 weeks after applying, he was awarded low mobility and middle care which is worth nearly 70 pounds a week. Without your tips and expertise I don’t think he would have passed either so easily.

Well worth the money.
Hannah

“relieve my financial worries to a significant degree”
I am writing to say how helpful I found your guidelines to claiming dla. I used your model to structure my application and was successful in being awarded a higher rate than during my last 3 applications.  I was forced to retire from work 8 years ago due to ill health and have struggled to manage on a private pension since.

The substantial increase in my future monthly dla payments will relieve my financial worries to a significant degree and I am really grateful that I came across your website when I did.

I would urge anyone who has stumbled blindly through the minefield of questions on dla application forms to join up. Arm yourself with this knowledge and give yourself a fighting chance! Your guidelines equipped me to battle with the DWP and win a fair deal for myself. Many thanks indeed.
Megan

“by far the best money I have ever spent on the Internet”
Thanks guys, without you I would have lost my DLA for sure.  This is by far the best money I have ever spent on the Internet. Thanks to you and your advice I got the highest rate on both components for an unlimited time.  What a weight off my shoulders.
Phil

“such a good resource”

I just wanted to say thank you for providing such a good resource.  I only came across your site two days before a Doctor was going to complete my medical for DLA. I suffer with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia, I have been poorly for a long time but never applied before due to all the horror stories.  I have received notice now that I have been successful, it really did help to have an insight into the procedure.
Mia

“your advice has been superb”

Just to say your advice has been superb for claiming DLA and far better than that provided by the patients organisations I belong to or to be honest, even the Welfare Rights people I dealt with a couple of renewals ago. (Although to be fair, the Welfare Rights people did care but were wishy washy).

I have this morning been awarded mobility and middle care indefinitely on my renewal claim. It is not a medal and I would rather be fit and active, but this is a relief.

I was careful to try and be accurate with my claim, especially as my needs do vary day to day and week to week. So I was pleased to see that the DM put words like, "although your needs vary; the help you need most of the time is as follows: etc". Fair that!
Trevor

I just received £294 lump sum
After being rejected twice I discovered you. I just received £294 lump sum and will receive £149.50 monthly in respect of lower level care DLA. This is a fantastic result and thank you very much. This will help me with Yoga classes each month. The key factor was the health professional sheet which I went though carefully with my GP and Psychiatric Consultant.
Will

He will be reviewed in June 2014!!!

Just to say that my husband received a letter this very morning from the DWP.  He filled in a IB50 some weeks ago and was called for a medical last week.  I downloaded all the information you had on IB and we commenced battle!

To cut a long story short he has been judged as unfit for work and, wait for it, he will be reviewed in June 2014!!! As you can imagine we are well pleased.  Thanks so much for all the information.
Barbara

A tremendous difference to my life
I was recently sent a review claim form for my DLA as the date for my award reached the 3 years. I was initially awarded the Low rate for mobility and the middle rate care component. After the review I was awarded the Low Rate Mobility and the Low Rate Care component. After reading the information on your site I was encouraged to ask for a review of their decision. I have just received confirmation that they are awarding me the Low Rate Mobility and the Middle Rate Care which is what was originally awarded. This will allow me to continue with a private therapist and to run my car which makes a tremendous difference to my life as without these I'm concerned my condition would deteriorate.

So thanks to all at Benefits and Work. Well Done!
Jim

My niece has been granted entitlement to the FULL AMOUNT
I thought that I should let you know what a great help you have been to me in relation to claiming Attendance Allowance, first for my wife, and secondly, for my niece.
I first had help from you in relation to my wife. That was in late 2007 and after following the advice in your "downloads" my wife applied in Sept 2007 and was granted the full allowance in October 2007.  We were highly delighted.

I then had to tackle the problems of my niece. I again used the services of your website, and my niece, with my help, completed the forms in Dec 2007.  To our surprise her application was refused in its entirety.  I duly appealed and the appeal was heard in April 2008. The appeal was refused and the Tribunal stated that my niece was "not entitled at either rate".  This was a considerable "knock back" as I believed that my niece had a very good case. However the Chairman did say that I had presented a good case on behalf on my niece. He then said words to the effect that we should try again in a few months time.

Having refused the appeal I did think that this was a rather strange remark. However we took him at his word and my niece, with my help, duly again completed the application form.  The form had changed slightly but the information my niece supplied was very little changed from the original application in December 2007, (apart from evidence of 3 further "falls"). We posted the form to the DWP on 11th February 2009 and received a reply on 22nd February 2009 saying that my niece has been granted entitlement to the FULL AMOUNT. It just shows that it pays to persist. Many, many, thanks for the help and advice supplied by your website.

I have been awarded higher rate mobility and lower rate care
Hi, just wanted to say thank you for all the work you put in to writing these guides.  I spent a year and a half fighting for DLA, all the way through to the commissioners, on my first application.  I only got lower rate care despite having major mobility issues.  This time I used your guide which was invaluable and I have just found out I have been awarded higher rate mobility and lower rate care without any fuss this time round, no refusal, no medical, no tribunal... for the next three years!  It is such a relief to be able to concentrate on getting well rather than fighting all over again.  Thank you.

The allowance will really help to make life easier

I just wanted to say thank you, I have just been awarded DLA at the middle rate, care component for a two year period. I have rheumatoid arthritis. I followed your advice very closely and did a very detailed application with lots of supporting information and had a decision within 6 weeks. It has made a big difference to know that my difficulties with daily living have been acknowledged and the allowance will really help to make life easier.
Many, many thanks.

After trying for DLA for four years
I just wanted to let you know, that after trying for DLA for four years! I have been finally awarded the care and mobility components! I’m so glad I registered with your website, it helped me fill in the lengthy forms, I didn't even have to have a medical! Thank you so much, without your help, I’m sure i would have been still trying!

A tidy sum was paid into my bank account
I signed up to your website almost a year ago and it got me through filling in the claim pack and winning an appeal - all by myself (and Benefits and Work, of course). The application was sent off in March and the appeal at the end of January - a tidy sum was paid into my bank account - all thanks to you.

The Bible of Benefits
Just wanted to say a big thank you, and say that joining your site was the best money I have ever spent!

I have just received a letter from the DWP telling me they have awarded me the higher component for both mobility AND care. This was done just on the basis of the forms I filled in, and a medical report from my G.P.

No having to go to an independent medical, no nosey Doctor snooping around my home! I am one very happy man today. I am convinced that the help I received from your site on filling in the forms etc made all the difference.

To all of you still waiting to hear, or have been turned down etc...don’t’ give up the fight, and treat this site like the Bible of Benefits. Do exactly what it says on here, and you will be half way there straight away!!

Once again, thank you so much for your help, it was much appreciated.

Well Done!
Sam
