Did you submit a letter from your GP? it's unlikely that they will offer a home assessment without one.

You don't have to answer this question but I have heard that they will not offer a home assessment if the claimant has issues of violence.

You could also try contacting your MP, but I would wait to do this until a doctor's letter has been sent, if that has not already happened.

Hi Gordon

I asked my GP initially to write a letter that I could include. He asked me to wait until I heard back from them in case it wasn't needed. I've asked my surgery to call me tomorrow to sort out a letter.

I have been restrained by police in the past but no convictions for violence. I noted that I can get agitated but not violent. Plus they came to my house to assess me before based on a similar application in 2014.

Hi all

Thought I'd give you a quick update on my PIP application.

I had to attend the assessment centre in Walsall and it was quite harrowing. I was only awarded two points DL and 4 mobility. I went through mandrec and got an extra 2 points DL.

I submitted my appeal documents last month and bizarrely got a voicemail from DWP today. My appeal documents had been sent to them and the appeals officer noticed my complaint that my PTSD was being assessed by an OT, so he sent it to a mental health nurse to review.

The result is that I have 17 points for DL and 10 for mobility so I'm back on the same award as before. It has also been awarded for SIX years, with a review after 5!!!!

I put on my appeal that I would only accept changes in writing so I have to wait for the offer letter to come through and once I've accepted that he will write to the tribunal to say I have been awarded PIP again.

Not sure if this is a new way of stopping the appeal going through to tribunal or a way of massaging the appeal success rate figures, but as you can expect I am absolutely over the moon at this.

Thank you for your fantastic guides and advice guys.

A tentative congratulations, you do need to wait for it to be confirmed in writing.

It's unusual but not that unusual for the DWP to do this, they are required to re-evaluate the claim every time they receive new evidence, the reality is that the DWP usually do this in the week before the hearing, so we normally hear of this happening a lot later in the appeal process.

Received the letter this morning, asking me to accept the offer or refuse it. I've accepted and will be sending it off via registered post to the appeals offer at Newcastle BDC (Via the Mail Handling Site A at Wolverhampton). I'll check that it has been signed for and contact him on his direct number early next week to confirm receipt and the next stages (i.e. when will it be authorised and the payment processed).

My acceptance means that the appeal will be lapsed, so if they were to step away from the offer it would mean that the appeal would go ahead and I now have evidence that they have reassessed my case and made the offer, so I'm pretty confident that it will go ahead.

Will update when I know.

Final update!

The brown envelope arrived today, and it confirms my previous conversation with DWP. Following my appeal submission where I highlighted that my PTSD was assessed by someone not suitably qualified, the Appeals Officer agreed and had my claim reassessed. I have now had my award continued for 6 years at the previous rate.

Thank you B&W for the guides and the advice. Best £20 I ever spent.
