JonnySkell wrote: Hi. I noticed a thread about PIP renewal recently, but haven't seen an answer to the following question. If it had been answered before, then apologies.

I applied for PIP in June 2013. After it was refused, I successfully appealed it and was awarded higher rate daily living and lower rate mobility for 3 years. The whole appeals process took 18 months, of which B&W guides helped immensely.

When the backdated award was being paid, a lady from the DWP contacted me. She said that shortly before the expiry of my current claim, I would receive a letter inviting me to reclaim and all I would have to do is confirm that my condition was still the same. I didn't think it would be that simple, but agreed with her.

I have experience of helping people apply for PIP and they all were awarded it without an appeal, however their reassessment came in the form of a pack with an application form.

My reassessment letter arrived today, 14 weeks before the award ends, as per DWP guidance. However all that has arrived is the letter inviting me to call DWP to make a new claim.

Is this a new method? Is it because I won an appeal? And dare I say it: is my reclaim going to be as simple as the DWP lady made out?

Thanks in advance.

Hi JS,

I see from your previous PIP related topic, which I will merge with this one, that you are currently in receipt of a PIP Award.

That being the case, it sounds like the letter that you have been sent has been sent in error as it appears to be the initial letter that is sent to current DLA recipients to instigate their transfer to PIP.

For a PIP/Renewal/Review you would receive a renewal pack with forms to fill in.

You need to contact PIP :

Hi bro58

Many thanks for your reply. I have re - read the letter and it makes no mention of DLA. I recently helped someone make the transition from DLA to PIP, and the letters are different. Specifically, mine starts with:

Dear,
Your award of Personal Independence Payment ends on 16 June 2016. If you think you'll still be entitled to Personal Independence Payments after this date, please call us on 0800 917 2222 to make a new claim.

I'll keep you posted when I speak to them tomorrow!

This is not the procedure that has been used for renewals previously, we would have expected you to have received a new PIP2 to complete.

I'm afraid you need to contact the DWP as you cannot make a new claim as already have one in award and if you wait for that to end then you will have a period of at least several months where you will receive no benefit.

Hi folks.

I have just called DWP regarding the renewal of my claim. Firstly, I called the 0345 number and they advised me that this is the process for the end of a short term award. A quick google search confirms that my letter, which had my NI number on it followed by PIP.0506 is the template for "End of Award Letter Short Term Award". I'm not sure what DWP's definition of Short Term is, as my award was for 3 years. The 0345 people referred me to the 0800 people.

When I contacted the 0800 New Claims number, the advisor told me that the NEW process for short term awards is that you are invited to re-apply for PIP, and will receive the PIP2 form in the post. All of the standard new application questions are asked: GP, Bank details, is it terminal... However at the end they ask something that I haven't been asked previously, either for my old claim or when I have advocated on behalf of others: a number of questions about Mental Health & Learning Disabilities. The first batch of questions were based on Severe depression that required hospital admission, psychosis, schizophrenia or ADHD, and the second batch was based on Autism, Aspergers. I fell under the severe depression criteria so told them that.

I've now been told that it will take up to 3 weeks to receive a PIP2 form and that they may contact my GP and Psychiatrist in the next 2-4 weeks.

One thing I did ask at both the start and end of the call was "Will I still receive my PIP payments until 16 June 2016, which is the end date for this claim?" and on both times, the CSA agreed. I will call the 0345 number tomorrow to ensure my next payment will be going into my bank on Wednesday 23rd March, as I'm concerned that having to make a new claim will strike off my old one from today.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks as always for your advice. Best £20 I've spent.

Jonny

This is still not the procedure that we would expect for a renewal, even if it was for a one year award, the important thing is that they appear to be processing it.

Although the PIP criteria have not changed since you last applied, the DWP guidance has, so make sure that you are using the current version.

Hi all

Just an update on my case. PIP received my 'How your disability affects you' form and despite me writing on it that I shouldn't be called due to the anxiety I have with incoming calls, they range me today! I gave them short shrift and then waited until tonight to call them back.

Despite me providing my evidence of my PTSD and my previous award which included 8 mobility points for travelling in public, they have booked me in to one of their clinics for my assessment :woohoo: . I spoke to them today and they are escalating my case to be reviewed as my appointment has been 'locked' to a clinic only.

Aside from a GP letter which I hope I'm getting tomorrow reiterating that I cannot travel, is there anything else I can do to persuade them? I've previously been home assessed by Capita and my current PIP claim is still active. Thank you.
