Hi all,

I'm am hoping someone can help me out with some info. My wife has had various surgeries throughout her life as she was born with dislocated hips, after various botched surgeries by the NHS she suffered a full sever of her nerve in her right leg, resulting in her right leg now being 1.5 inches shorter, she also suffered a foot drop. As a result of this she now has a fused ankle to help her walk. Due to this she cant drive a normal car, she has to drive an automatic with left foot accelerator. I have found a driving instructor who has informed me she should be entitled to free driving lessons, and has pointed me in the direction of this website. We have applied for PIP and was refused after having a physical. So I have two questions.... Can someone point me in the right direction for the free lessons? And also should we try for PIP again?

Thanks

Kristian.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As far as the PIP claim is concerned, I suggest you have a look at our PIP guide to see if you could have explained your wife's limitations any differently, such that DWP would be likely to come to a different decision.

PIP help for claimants

I must warn you that the enhanced rate of the mobility award is very difficult to get for people who suffer either mental or physical health problems. However, even the lower rate would be better than what you have now (ie nothing)!

I'm afraid I don't know anything about free driving lessons but members might be able to comment from their own experience.

If you have further questions or comments, please reply to this message (rather than starting a new topic) and we will do our best to help. You will find this easily in future if you bookmark/favourite it on your web browser now :)

Motabiity paid for my driving lessons when I changed to hand controls. However you obviously need to be in receipt of Enhanced mobility to benefit from this
