Severe Disability Premium was created by bennie
Am going to be moved from DLA to PIP shortly and have just realised I never claimed Severe Disability Premium

So:

Can I still claim this with PIP? (am still on higher rates)

Will it be backdated to when I was on DLA?

Will any amount received affect ESA contribution based support group payment?

Thanks in advance

Providing you have a PIP Daily Living award then you are in principle eligible to claim the Severe Disability Premium, providing of course that you meet the other criteria and if you received DLA MRC or HRC then this would allow backdating.

However, to be entitled to payment of the SDP you need to be receiving or entitled to receive Income Related ESA either in full or as a top-up to your ESA(CB). ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If you think that you are eligible for ESA(IR) then you need to contact the DWP and ask for an ESA3 so they can assess your financial situation.

Hi thanks.

How do I know if I am getting in full or a top-up?

My ESA letters always say something like:

'ESA award 73.10
Disability Income Guarantee 15.75
Extra money SG 36.20
Total income related 125.05'

Then DLA not counted as income, then:

Savings 125.05 minus 17.00
Income related amount is therefore 108
'However because you are entitled to contribution based ESA we will pay you £109.30?

(BTW The SDP issue came up as a result of speaking to an adviser. He was looking at my Council Tax claim and saw that the Council assumed that I was receiving SDP as part of their calculations)

Sorry for further queries I do hope to see advisor again next week but would be good to know your view

Also just noticed bottom of my latest ESA letter (which referred to a change in savings though there has been none) seemed to coincide with latest PIP award letter it says 'amounts on this page apply from 18 March 2016 to 10 November 2016'. The date my PIP starts is 16 Nov. Are these letters connected? And should I be concerned about where it mentions until 10 November?

Thanks

Because your calculated ESA(IR) amount is less than your ESA(CB) payment you are not receiving any ESA(IR) at the moment, however, if the Severe Disability Premium was added to the calculation then you would be entitled to just over £60/week of ESA(IR).

The date in November is connected to the payment of the Christmas Bonus.

Thanks for that clarification.

So would I be correct in thinking that if i claimed SDP and if SDP is counted as income then I would end up going from ESA CB to ESA IR and that I would get less ESA - as i would be on ESA IR at £60 - though the total might possibly go up with the SDP? ie. £60 plus £60ish SDP = £120.

Thanks

No, not at all!!!!!!

Your calculated ESA(IR) according to your post is currently is £108. The SDP will add £61.85 giving a total of £169.85, your ESA(CB) will then be deducted leaving a total of £60.55 of ESA(IR) a week in addition to your current ESA(CB) of £109.30.
