Bramble wrote: Hi, I was awarded higher rate for both components last year. In September I got a form asking how my conditions had changed, not much change, sent it back. Today I get a phone call from them telling me they will do a home visit on this coming Saturday. I never asked for a home visit so this is a bit of a shock to me. Is this usual? Now I get myself into a total panic every time I have any dealings with them, even if it's just a letter from them, so I am busy freaking out here. What am I to expect and what do they do?
Thanks.
Did you have a face to face assessment last year? I'm expecting it to be the same, if you didn't then have a look at the PIP Claim guide there is a section at the back that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.
As an aside, you are entitled to seven days written notice of an assessment, unfortunately I suspect that your failing to object to the short notice appointment was implied consent but you should be aware of this for any future assessment.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did have a face to face last year so I'll expect the same.
I never knew about the 7 days written notice, I was just so flustered when they phoned that I just agreed. I did ask why I was getting a home visit when I never asked for one and was told they decided on one.
This is just an assessment and they don't have the right to open drawers or cupboards or go searching through my house do they? I don't have anything to hide but am an intensely private person and am now starting to panic myself that someone is going to come in and start digging through my stuff.

They have no rights than any other guest in your house, but to be honest we have never heard of an assessor asking to look around so it really should not be an issue.
You are entitled to have someone with you if you want.

We are hearing of members waiting up to 8 weeks for a decision after the face2face has been carried out.
