PIP assessment home visits was created by Sdee
ATOS have written to me saying they are coming to my home to carry out my assessment for PIP.
I've never heard of someone having a visit, has anyone here had one? What happened and what should I expect and do?
I have to admit that I'm surprised at this I was expecting to have to go to them for the assessment and could do without the thought of some stranger coming to my home and poking around.
I'd appreciate hearing your experiences and advice. Thanks

It's actually not that unusual.

Home assessments are not significantly different from those carried out in the Assessment Providers offices. The PIP Claim guide has a section at the back that cover the assessment process and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Had my second home visit the last one just last week and I can promise you they do not go snooping around but are very observant so if it needs to be on show leave it or otherwise move it.
They do not go from room to room as you might expect.
They know what to look for and what to ask you.
Good luck

Had an ATOS assessor make a home visit about a month ago. Had feared the worst for obvious reasons but thankfully the assessor was entirely helpful, pleasant, fair, sensitive, etc throughout and I was a bit overwhelmed with mixed emotions at the time. Cynical old me still didn't quite believe it and wouldn't until the brown envelope ultimately arrived.

It eventually did, and mightily relieved that decision was in effect continuation of higher rate care and mobility same as I was getting on DLA, and 'for an ongoing period'

Seems they do a home visit if you've indicated on the form that you'd have severe difficulties accessing their nearest assessment centre and that what you've told them looks plausible to them.

Benefits and Work merit a massive thank you from me for making available invaluable guidance about the whole process and how best to survive it and what to expect.

That's great news bubbles, and a lovely subject for your first post on the forum.

Thanks for letting us know - and for your kind words about B+W :)
