Going on to Dialysis at End Stage Renal Failure

Dear Friends,

I have been told by my Renal Consultant that I am at stage 5 'End Stage' and in need of dialysis very soon and possibly 3 to 5 years left to live.
I have received High rate Motability and Middle rate DLA care for the past 21 years after a very bad accident at work as a Lorry driver.
My date of birth is 02/08/1949, and as yet I have not been contacted by PIP and do not feel up to been messed around with.
Now my question = If I tell DWP about my dialysis, will I then wake up the sleeping Giant PIP and bring trouble upon myself.
A renal nurse has told me that I should receive extra for being on dialysis at home, plus help with Council tax and Electricity bills.
Kindest regards Jim.

Hi Jimmy,

Yes, any notification of Change of Circumstances to DWP will trigger the switch to PIP. Of course, we have no way of knowing when that might happen anyway. The selection process is random (as far as we know) so you could hear tomorrow or in 2 years time!

I suggest you have a look at our PIP self-assessment, score yourself harshly (as DWP will) and, hopefully, that will help you decide whether to contact PIP or 'let sleeping dogs lie'.

The guide also explains the PIP process. I must warn you that, once this has been started, there is no going back, your DLA claim will be closed 1 month after the PIP decision, no matter what that decision is or how long your DLA had left to run.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
