Child 16 in 8 months and have had DLA renewal was created by rieb1
Hi there, i was Wondering if anyone could help me please. My son has been receiving DLA for the past 5 years and it is coming to an end in June 2017. I have just received the massive DLA renewal pack. My worry is that by the time its sent off and he receives a decision, it will only be like 3 months until hes 16 and will need to claim PIP anyway! Should i query it, or will i have to just do it all twice in a short amount of time anyway? many thanks

I'm afraid it will be two assessments, the PIP legislation prevents a claim before the age of 16 so there is no way to bridge the gap, you should be able to, at least in part, use the DLA evidence in regard the PIP one, although you will still need to do a lot of work as the criteria for DLA and PIP are quite different.

As Gordon relplied the PIP is a lot tougher than DLA so a lot of teenagers will loose the benefit unless you can prove it is needed. I know of a case where the parent is claiming DLA when her son can do all the descriptors in the
PIP test so will most likely loose benefits.
