ESA - Help with recent letter was created by moutainsandoceans
Hi

Just subscribed to the site and looking for some insight.

I had my first ESA WCA in May last year, my first claim for the benefit.

I heard back in June. I never got a letter. But instead was phoned by someone who informed me that after getting very little points scored, I failed the assessment.

This person said they'd call me back after stating the aforementioned. I answered their call back a few minutes later, they said they'd place me on 6 months of WRAG. I ended up doing the work programme regimen and have been since August 2016.

Now that it's obviously been 6 months since that decision, which is the time they gave me (some have said this was odd as it's usually a year not just 6 months) - I was sent another ESA50 in January. I filled it in stating what I said last time, explained the fact I'm unable to anything on most days, sent supportive evidence. And they then gave me a date for another WCA which is next week.

Getting another ESA50 to fill in and another WCA didn't surprise me as I knew they wouldn't have kept me on without being assessed again.

But the latest letter I got a few days ago makes no sense to me, I thought that I was just waiting to go to the WCA. I was looking to see if anyone could inform me of what the message to take away is.

I can link the letter so you can view it with this post.

The first lines mention: "CHANGES IN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS, IN APRIL 2017 THE RATES OF SOME BENEFITS MAY CHANGE"

It then mentions "WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK THE DECISION IS WRONG" all the usual stuff about how one should do MR in one month... But I have no idea if this is a general message to ESA claimants or if it's informing me directly that my ESA will cease.

Because the page after shows the rates for my claim and does not say anything else.

Very confused and I want to thank you in advance if you can help me.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm afraid that the DWP have never been known for the clarity of their communications! This does sound as if it could be a decision letter, as it talks about what to do if you do not agree with the decision. However, the only way you will know for sure is to ring DWP and ask!

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your ESA without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Thanks for getting back to me.

I rung up and spoke to someone who said they couldn't see any change of payment.

However, I'm coming up to my second WCA (after 6 months in WRAG) and my estimate is that they will be informing me soon after that I'll be coming off of ESA.

As the letter refers to April, I think this is the annual entitlement letter and not a Decision Letter.
