I am 65 in two weeks time but had to give up work 3 years ago through ill health, in November I received the dreaded DLA to PIP notice.
I have been on DLA for the last 8 years and was awarded the indefinat award.
I have sent all the medical proof with my application which proves that I have mobility problems and cannot walk far and then only with support.
I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, Osteoarthritis, Ulcerative Colitis, Fibromyalgia, Pernicious Anaemia and a permanent Ileostomy.
I have provided all the medical proof for this.
My conditions have deteriated a lot during the last 2 years.
I have just received an appointment to attend an face to face assessment in the middle of Birmingham, they have given me detailed instructions on how to get there, how far and how long.
The total distance is 1/3 of a mile, I have no chance whatsoever of being able to do this, they have also given times of how long the walking will take.
They have given 23.3 minutes to get to the nearest rail station from my house, it takes my wife 22 minutes to walk there and she is not disabled, this means they are making no allowances for my disabilities presuming that I could do it anyway.
The appointment is less than two weeks away and our doctors surgery is so busy nowadays that it takes weeks to get an appointment and even longer to get a doctors letter.
I will telephone and write to Capita and say that they are not making reasonable ajustments for my disability and that they are putting me at a significant disadvantage and request a home visit.
Of course I expect a reply that they will want a doctors letter that I am unable to get for weeks.
I have just taken delivery of a new motability car which has less than 500 miles on it at the moment. it could well be that this car could be taken off me whilst I have to go through the appeals routine.
I am worn out by fighting for our needs I have two daughters who were born with a genetic disability and have had to fight for their needs for the last 20 years, I have had to do 7 SEN tribunals during this time.
My 22 year old daughter has had no access to education since she was 19 despite involving the LGO our MP and many others, she now sits at home and doesnt want to go anywhere, this is because of the trauma because of how she has been messed around by our local authority.
I am sure the DWP win overall because disabled people get worn by the constant fighting in order to get basic needs met.
I could ramble on and on about this.

You can ask for a home assessment but you will need your GP to write to the Capita explaining why you cannot attend at their offices.

Can you ring your GP surgery and ask for a call back from your GP?

My GP practise is so busy now it can take 5-6 weeks to get an appointment, so I have handed in a letter asking if he will write a quick note for me, this will be usefull when Capita send my daughter an assessment (which is due any day now)
I have telephoned Capita and explained that I cannot attend, they looked for a home visit appointment for me but then said there were none.
They said they will now put my application in front of a medical person who will be in contact with me.
They did say that it may be after the appointment date that I cannot attend and that they will not cancel that one.
I have sent a letter to them by registered post and a copy to the DWP asking them to treat it as an official complaint.
I have had to do this once before with an issue with one of my daughters, despite writing a number of letters o the DWP over a 6 month period I never received a reply so I asked the independant case examiner to intervene, they soon started writing to me then.
I cannot belive the waste of money involved with this, I have plenty of evidence and all my medical people who help me will do anything for me.
This means if I have to go to tribunal I will be sure to win.
It would also mean returning my recent motability car until I win a tribunal and then apply for another one, madness!
One thing that does annoy me is the stance motability take on all this, considering the large amount of almost new cars being returned you would think they would have made a comment to the government about all these changes but they will not.
In a large car dealers near me they have a number of ex motability cars only a few months old and with hardy any miles on, one was onbly 3 months old with 300 miles on.
