Hello, I have Bipolar Disorder type II with Complex PTSD. I was awarded PIP in 2014 whilst still undiagnosed. I have completed the how your disability affects you form. On Monday evening I received a phone call from Atos asking to arrange the F2F medical. The first appointment they offered was at 9 am the next morning! They got a polite no thankyou, then they offered 9am Friday morning, I explained that because of the medication I take, early mornings are not suitable appointment times for me. We agreed to a 3pm appointment this Saturday.

The last F2F assessment I had went really well. The assessor was somebody who had a detailed knowledge of mental illness and this was reflected in her report.

My symptoms have become more pronounced since that last F2F, additionally I am awaiting surgery to remove my gall bladder and repair a hernia.

I become very anxious and hyper vigilant when outside of my home, when trying to speak I can stammer and lose my voice, if very stressed and unable to find a safe place, I have wet myself in the past.

I am worried about losing my voice during the assessment, and if I feel threatened wetting myself. How do I let the assessor know these issues? Do I even let them know? What happens if I lose my voice during the assessment, will it continue? What happens if I wet myself, will it continue? At what point will the amount of distress I am experiencing stop the assessment?

You can either tell the assessor of your problems and concerns at the start of the assessment or if you think you would struggle to do this then write a short note explaining your issues and give it to them.

I'm afraid I can't advise as to what will prompt the assessor to curtail the assessment, hopefully it will not be a problem but if it is then you need to use your judgement.

If you have to terminate the assessment then I would advise you to write to the DWP to explain why you did so they have an understanding of the problems you experienced on the day.
