Single Parents

Hi all newbie here

Firstly sorry if this has already been asked. I did look to see, but did not see anything relevant.

I am single parent, on IB and have been waiting a six agonising months on my review. It should have been October last year. It still as yet to come.

I am well aware of what could happen under this new system and my question is, that with having a dependant, which benefit would they transfer me on if they deem me to be fit for work.

I am so out of the loop with benefits as a single parent these days and I am worried that if there is indeed a transfer of benefits I am going to be left with nothing to live on while this happens.

Depending on the age of your child and on your other income and capital, you may be able to get income support. Government guidance on income support.

Otherwise, you would have to consider claiming JSA.

I already get Child tax credit element and my thoughts are it would either be income support or the JSA and adjustments made to account for this already received benefit.

I know the benefit system can be slow to get claims up and running and it does worry me that this process will leave me and many of us living off next to nothing for weeks.
