Just wondering if my partner can claim carers allowance for me? He has been my unofficial carer for years!
Also would he need his own bank account to get paid? He doesn't have one and his ID is non existent, his mum also changed his name 3 times when he was really young, it's a pain in the backside.

Oh and would we be worse off if claiming carers? I am in esa support group and it's a joint claim.
Thank you

Providing they are able to provide a minimum of 35 hours of care a week and their earnings are less than £110 per week then they can in principle claim Carers Allowance, however, you comment that his "ID" is non existent does raise a note of concern. They will require a bank account to receive any CA, it doesn't need to be in their name but there may be issues if it is not.

There CA will be treated as income and deducted from your ESA, so you will need to contact the ESA office dealing with your claim if they receive the benefit, but you will also receive the Carers Premium giving you a net increase.

Hi

Your story has similarities to my own. I think that you should focus on getting stronger and apply for PIP. I would advise that you get help All the way through as it is a tough journey. I have been on & off disability benefits due to personality disorder. I was awarded PIP 2 years ago, but they took this away after my medical in December. I am appealing & located some support today.

Being in hospital is tough - I hope you get stronger each day. I can update you on my case as I go along if you like.
