Should I be asking for a home visit ? was created by Johninpain
Hi we filled out the forms for John and they have come back with an appointment nearly 1 hour away by car when we have a few places in Bristol I wonder if I should ask for a home visit as 1) John wouldn't do this lengh of trip for fun at the moment he is just not capable of it were summer he could have a few hours sleep in the car and then come home but in these temps not a good idea. He could possibly do the trip if the appointment didn't take too long and he was able to rest for some time afterwards but would they assume he is capable of doing it all the time if he pushes himself to go to this appointment 2) he has social phobia and anxiety and aspergers ( not diagnosed by specialist drs yet as this is a 3 week stay in London ) and does not do well with new surroundings even with a companion ( I have just had major surgery and it will be a struggle for me to travel with him)
When he feels anxious he can get quite aggressive and loses his filter which can cause arguments he never means to offend but if he's anxious and out if you are wearing an ugly hat he will tell you about it along with anything else that may stick in his mind at the time so forgetting the pain mobility issues are his anxiety issues good enough to ask for a home visit he is almost 2 people at home in his surroundings he is polite quiet and friendly always but out he can be loud ( unintentionally) and possibly offensive like I say if he thinks you are fat he may voice this but would never do this at home any help would be appreciated also his appointment is next Wednesday and we may be due for some bad weather?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Is this regarding John's PIP claim, or has he also got an ESA assessment ongoing?

Either way, the claimant is allowed to change the assessment appointment just once without penalty. Changing venue (whether this is to another assessment centre or a home visit) will count as the one opportunity.

If you hope for a home visit, you will need to back this up b y a letter from John's GP explaining why he is unable to attend an assessment centre.

I need to warn you that a home visit will not be allowed if aggression has been mentioned in the application form or accompanying information. This is because the Assessment Provider has a duty to protect their staff.

If you decide to ask for a change of venue, make sure whoever will be accompanying John makes the call (or has left their diary handy ) so that a suitable date/time can be arranged.

Please reply to this with further questions or comments and we will do our best to help. You will find it easily in future if you bookmark/favourite it on your web browser now. Thank you
It's a pip assessment and I think they may know as he had an panic attack and got a bit grumpy (shouty) at a DLA tribunal and they allowed his points on a section about causing distress to john or something but he wasn't aggressive in person just a bit exhausted with all the paperwork
As I said he just has no filter and some people don't approve
He may be able to get a GP letter but I don't know if he could get it to them in the time ?
Will the assessor assume he can do the activity everyday if he goes to the appointment as the only other one they can give him is in central Bristol and parking is non exsistant so even though the Weston is a lot further the amount he will have to walk is a lot less but will still need to have a rest before he can come home
And that will probably be all he can do for several days he barely goes out at all normally

If you cancel the first appointment, this would give you some time to get a GP letter to the Assessment Provider. Be warned that they might still not agree. The 'aggression' issue could be one reason for refusal.

The assessor will assume that John can carry out the activity without problems unless they are clearly told otherwise.

I would expect John to be asked 'How did you get here today?' or something similar. This is the time to explain that the journey was very difficult for John and will put him out of action for some days to come.

As an aside, is this a PIP reassessment or is it still the same claim that we talked about a few months ago?

It's a DLA to pip transfer so do you think I should ask for a home visit? Or just explain the difficultys he has had he has a invalid cart for some travel but will they see that as an aid so he doesn't need help?

It's odd as he is more relaxed around his house and is never aggressive at home it's only when out he gets anxious
