MOTABILITY SITUATION

MOTABILITY SITUATION was created by Susan Lowe
In September last year, after a fundamentally flawed assessment, hubby was told he was only entitled to the standard rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment. Consequently, he lost his Motability vehicle - which he had only had for 7 months. He was reimbursed a pro-rata proportion of his deposit AND he was given a "transition payment" by Motability. However, he was not reimbursed for the extras he had purchased for the vehicle and he was told, even if he successfully challenged the PIP decision, he could not rejoin the Motability Scheme for 6 months.

Motability did allow him to keep the car for 2 weeks after the original return date because he was having medical issues at the time of the original return date..

Hubby's Enhanced Rate mobility component has now been reinstated so on Saturday, he went to the Seat dealership in MK to place an order for his new car - which is not available for 5-6 months. The dealer couldn't place the order because "There are "arrears" showing on the system." Arrears????

This morning, hubby spoke to Motability. The "arrears" are the difference between the standard rate and the enhanced rate mobility component for the additional weeks Motability allowed him to keep the car. ALSO, he's still within the six month time limit. HIs cut off date isn't until 20th June 2017. If he orders the car before 20th June - EVEN THOUGH the car won't be available for 5-6 months - he's got to repay two thirds of the "transition relief payment" he was given!!!!

Susan

I'm afraid Motability operate under their own rules.
