Many Thanks Mrs Hurtyback and Gordon
I wish the DWP would talk in plain English like you do.

They are certainly not known for the clarity of their communications!

The 28 days only applies to ESA(IR) however their is an undefined point where a being abroad is no longer classed as a holiday and you need to consider exporting your benefit to another country, my best guess is six months.

Sorry to bring this up again, but does it conflict with advice in this thread;
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?view=topic&catid=10&id=105137
bro58 posts a link to a rightsnet thread
www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/4955/
which says
'Client was in receipt of CESA in the support group' - apparently she went abroad for over 28 days and the DWP closed her claim

Once would have been enough :)

The DWP guidance in regard to ESA(CB) includes the following phrase.

"in relation to ESA(Cont), this condition must be read subject to EC law"

So I think we have to stick to our original advice of four weeks and if they wish to go for longer then they need to contact the DWP.
