Esa support group and UC work coach was created by marx175
Have been in receipt of high rate PIP mobility and middle care etc since a n rta in 2002. Also on contribution based ESA in the support group as well. Did get tax credits but now they are moving us to U/C. We know we won't get it as have savings but we should get transitional protection for 1 year, then it stops.
Now having completed all the online forms I've been told to attend a meeting with a job coach at the local job centre. Now I was under the impression that in the support group work coach meetings were voluntary??

Hi marx123

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

When you first apply for UC your claim does not go live until you have seen your workcoach and signed your claimant commitment.

Thank you, I was under the impression that in the support group people we under no work related requirements and therefore have no claimant commitment to agree to?

The Claimant Commitment is a mandatory requirement for all UC claimants, you really have no choice but to comply (see below) if you don't then they will simply close your claim. if they do this then you may lose any Transitional Protection you now have.

Despite there being millions of ESA claimants who will have to be moved to UC there is no electronic connection between the two systems so it is more than likely that your Work Coach has no idea you are in the Support Group.

Contact your Work Coach and ask for accommodations for your SG status, for example; they could switch the appointment to a phone meeting and the Commitment can be added to your UC journal to sign.
