Does anyone know how long CB esa is paid for please, once a claimant is awarded it?
Thankyou.

As long as you satisfy the eligibility criteria for ESA then you will remain on it until you reach pensionable age.

I am about to find out what my occupational pension is. I was not going to continue claiming ESA because I thought I would lose it all following the calculations as explained earlier. I decided not to continue with my appeal to be moved into the support group (in August) as a consequence. However my pension (decided in December) is based upon my inability to continue in teaching, and in fact any other gainful employment and so I now come to the following conclusions. I should be in the support group and should reappeal via the tribunal service. I may be in line to receive some of my ESA (especially if in the support group) instead of none which is what I had anticipated. A pound in my pocket is better than none. Cheers

Hi,

As you were notified of the ESA decision in August, presumably last year, you cannot appeal. Under normal circumstances you have to appeal within a month of reaching the DWP's decision.

Whether or not you can put in a new claim for ESA, I don't think so, but I'm no expert on ESA as I retired as a WRO in 2005, way before ESA was introduced.

Perhaps one of the other moderators who knows more about ESA then I do could comment.

Good luck.

Hi Firebird/Jim,

If you are refused ESA then I think you cannot reclaim within 6 months of the decision unless there has been a deterioration in your condition or you have developed a new condition.

But if you were awarded ESA in the work-related activity group and wished to apply for the support group I think you would need to show that there had been a change of circumstances - new condition or deterioration in an existing condition - which would allow the decision maker to look at the award again.
