Hello, I wanted to known when you change over to universal credit, do you still get pip and SDA, on top or does that stop or decrease? I currently get housing benefit, Esa both contribution and non in support group, pip and SDP. Someone was telling me when they change you over to UC they reduce your money. Quite worried now as managing and paying rent is a struggle now with increases. Please let me know will it change my Sdp and pip or is that additional?
Thanks

Hi Sidhu123

It is hard to answer your question as it would depend on a number of factors. People who move on to UC due to a change of circumstances (‘natural migration’) and people who move on to UC through an administrative process imposed on them (‘managed migration’). how you move onto UC will affect whether or not you get transitional protection.

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation who will be able to take all your circumstances into consideration. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Hi Sidhu. I have been on several benefit calculators to see how I would be affected. I would lose about £20 each week. The SDP ‘preserved changeover part’ also stays the same and does not have a yearly inflation increase, so additionally you will get slightly less from this ALSO every year (I am also on ESA IR&CB).

*If I remember rightly we lose the ‘Enhanced Disability Premium of £17.20 a week PERMANENTLY, but it was a while ago that I did it…. Hence the ‘about £20’. **Do your own calculations to make sure as we are all different with different circumstances**

I have not moved to UC yet, but like to know things, which is why I have looked this up in the past. Everything changes so often I still have no idea what the future reality will be. Stay on ESA for as long as humanly possible. I would go on various ‘benefit calculators’ to work this out for yourself.

Hi Sidhu123

There are a number of benefit calculators out there to check your benefit entitlements; url=https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators] gov.uk/benefits-calculators [/url, as Angel has stated the out come of the calculations depends on your circumstances.

I have come across numerous claimants who receive ESA support but don't receive PIP who would be `better off on UC and in the LCWRA group.

You need to do the maths or ask your local Welfare Rights Organisation to do the maths for you.
