I'm asking on behalf of someone on JSA who was sanctioned for 2 weeks a couple of months ago. She needs to challenge the sanction. She never got any letter formally announcing the sanction, her benefits were just stopped apparently at the whim of her advisor. Firstly, is a sanction legal without a written notice? And secondly, as she never got a written notice giving her a month to appeal can she now appeal even though it is over 2 months since she got sanctioned?
Thank you for your question, unfortunately it is outside the remit of this forum.
Your friend needs to contact their local Welfare Rights Organisation who can take all their circumstances into consideration, such as why were they sanctioned? was it the first time?
You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
