Splitting content between forms & extra sheets

I read on another thread Gary said

I would not split your answers across the form and attached pages, do one or the other for each activity (not question), splitting it risks the second part of your answer not being read.”

But i'm a bit confused as that’s new to me & v interesting because I'm preparing for PIP review & all my answers are already typed up.

Previously for all the forms (PIP2/ESA50) I have always started hand writing on the form (with the bit I most need them to see written first), & then when space runs out, written “continued on Page _ of extra sheets.”

Am I to understand it that this isn’t the best way to do it then?
But rather if the whole answer wont fit into the box, to leave it almost blank & put the entire answer on the extra sheets?
In which case what does one write in the box to ensure they do actually read anything of your answers on the extra sheets? (I'm always a bit worried that they just ignore the extras). And to excuse/explain the fact you’re not following the instructions on the form to only use extra sheets 'if you need more space’.

Be great to send the details for each activity just on extra sheets alone (which is what i think you're recommending?) but I don’t want to irritate the DM before they even started reading LOL! So wanted to be clear on what your recommendation is.

Hi Cemily

It actually doesn't matter whether you write all on the form, all on separate sheets or do a bit of both. The thing that matters most is that it is easy to read and follow.

Gary's recommendation is not to split.

I have done somewhere I have written one sentence in the box and the rest on separate sheets and I have done some, where I have written in the box - eg. "please find the answer on additional sheet 1"

I always include one sheet which is a table of contents - listing everything I have included in addition to the form.

I've been successful in using either method for other people.

If you have a substantial answer - they are never going to fit in the box.

Thanks for that BIS. Having 2 fluctuating conditions which both impact on ALL the activities, every answer is substantial.

I have tended in the past to answer with

At worst ....
Majority of time (ie x days per wk)....
At best can ... but not repeatedly ...

And start with the 'at worst' hand written on the form, figuring that since they only care about the majority of time, that it would kind of ensure they look at the extra sheets.
But it would be great to not have to get someone to hand copy the first few lines onto the form, especially as i cant do it myself (in the time allowed) so it takes time out of carers' hours, which are few enough as it is.
I just worry that if its not on the form its easier to ignore & they'll just make up their own story, but i suppose some of them will do that regardless.

These decisions would be so much easier if i didnt feel like i was treading on eggshells trying not to p*ss them off when they hold my sanity & survival in their hands!
Thank goodness for all of you at B&W i'd never get through it without you

I picked up the contents sheet idea from you a while back thank you :)
