Yes, the renewal usually will lead to a new assessment, depending on what medical evidence is sent in to support the claim, some claimants may get a paper assessment, the majority of claimants will have a telephone assessment. We have head on the forum that some claimants have had a face to face assessment but it is rare at this moment in time.

Treat the renewal as if it was a new claim, if you kept a copy of your original claims form use it as a template, if your condition has deteriorated, explain what has deteriorated and how it has affected you in your daily living.
